Hi there. I'm Ryan, Peter's owner. I hope I can address some of the concerns people have about the blog I made for my cat. If anyone has any questions please ask!
Thanks for helping to get the word out, Trippy Turtle. I appreciate it! Yeah he's pretty adorable, eh? He's not really blind, just very cross-eyed and near-sighted.

I feed my cats just fine and my income isn't that great. If Ryan can't afford to look after a cat, why does he have one? It's the responsiblity of pet owners to plan this stuff beforehand.
I didn't expect to be this broke when I accepted Peter. I could afford him just fine at first. Things have gotten harder for us more recently, because there's some extra bills I have to pay. We kind of have an attachment with each other now and I don't want to give him up, so I started the blog hoping that people could help us stay together.

Then he should have politely declined. If you can't afford a pet, don't own a pet. Simple.
I don't really have a lot of people in my life right now. Peter's really the only one I have day-to-day. We love each other so much. We have a lot in common in our life histories and we relate to each other really well. I don't want to give him up for adoption, so I started the blog.

Peter looks well-fed anyway, even quite healthy. I smell a scam.
I'm not letting him starve. I go without food myself before I'd let him go hungry. He does have some stomach problems that I talk about on the blog, but they seem to have gotten better after I switched his food.

Oh my gosh I just noticed that the song in the background is Death In June's "Rose Clouds Of Holocaust". I take it all back, give the guy as much money as you can.
(makes note to tell Douglas P he's in a cat video...)
Haha yeah I'm a huge fan of DI6!

Deaf cat? Not uncommon, if you observe Peter's all-white fur (all-white cats are at severely increased risk of deafness).
But he's definitely a cewt kitteh. :3
Thanks! Wikipedia has a good article on deaf white cats with blue eyes. I'm not sure if I can link it here, but it has some good information about the genetics behind it.

The poor thing is deaf and partially blind? *whimpers* Poor kitteh. I had one once which, no joke, was mentally retarded. The poor thing would literally get lost in our house and just sit and cry until you found him. I hope Peter gets the care he needs...
Thank you! It takes bit of extra love to care for a cat with special needs, but it's worth it, don't you think?

Wasnt there a thread in here recently where a guy couldn't afford food for his 2 dogs and got the money from someone anonymous?
To me it looks a bit fake. The trash in the kitchen seemed placed, the cat seems to be quite fine (nice fur, no visible eye disorders, and hell cats doesn't really give a damn when someone snaps their fingers). Looks like a scam, especially when you have just heard the news about the guy and his dogs.
Haha you're giving my skills at film-making and housekeeping way too much credit! I can assure you that Peter's stone deaf. I don't really know how to prove that except by showing how he doesn't react to loud noises. You can't really see how cross-eyed he is in the video, because he's looking at stuff up close, but check out our blog for some pictures. His fur's fine because, aside from his sensory and stomach problems, he's healthy. The blog's more about helping us stay together by taking up some of the slack in our budget for food, kitty litter, and veterinary care so that I don't have to give him to a shelter. I haven't heard about the guy and his dogs. Did that turn out to be a scam or something?

I don't want to sound like a troll or a massive cynic but this is exactly what I'd do if I wanted to fleece money from rich people who care about animals. If you want to help animals and know for sure that your money is being used well, try donating it to a widely recognised animal charity, such as the World Society for the Protection of Animals (international), the HSUS (America) or the RSPCA (UK).
I would like to say that I think this is probably a case of genuine need, but you can't be sure.
Is there some way I could prove to you that this is genuine? I figured out how much we need to raise so that I can keep him until I graduate and can get a job. After we raise that, I'm taking off the donate button and replacing it with links to some animal welfare organizations people might like to donate to instead. You seem to know a lot about it, so is there a good list of them anywhere?
