I'm pretty sure I know what object specifically you're referring to (don't wanna give it away to other people) but I've tried touching it, hitting it, playing with it, turning it on, moving it, taking it, switching it on, put the keys and the costume in it, tried getting it, opening, closing....and everything else, and nothing seems to work.
I'm also fairly certain the dirt is not dirt, but by the life of me I can't take it with me, touch it, grab it, examine it anymore, answer the "is this really dirt?" question, nor grab anything else to take it with me...
You're VERY close, caliostro. When you examine said object, there's a clue as to what you need to do in the description.

I tried to make the language as forgiving as possible, but there are certain instances where fairly specific language is required. Welcome to text adventures.
Also just wanted to point out that the number of moves you use does not count against you, so try everything.
