Phantom of the Arcade

That is cool, I used to play lots of text adventures when I was a kid. You don't see very many new ones anymore. You know what's really weird? I work at a video game store called........

Game Haven!

Weird huh?

Fortunately, it's much less abandoned than the arcade in the game. I don't think it's haunted but I'm not sure It gets a little messy on nights I'm not working, but the manager's desk is a little easier to find than this one. I should tell my manager about this game on the Escapist. He'd probably get a real kick out of it.

I'll keep playing and see if I can beat it. The map is a nice touch too and should help a lot. That's the toughest part of text adventures, avoiding getting lost.

Oops! I forgot to make it a question I guess. Here's a couple. Has anyone beat Phantom of the Arcade yet (I haven't)? Do any of you guys still play text adventures anymore? If so, do you play the really old ones only or have you found some other good text adventures made recently to play (other than Phantom of the Arcade)?

it was fun, although my only experience with text based games are the first three kings quest games and those still had visuals as atari like as they are.

I found it fairly easy. Of course, playing Hitchhikers guide and zork helped me figure out alot of stuff. If you need help with it, Pm me and I will give you some clues. One thing you should remember to do its examine EVERYTHING. Smell stuff, look at stuff, push stuff over. Alot of verbs that you would think of off of the top of your head don't really work(at least ones I thought of). But Smell, examine, drop,and take are all ones you are going to use. Hitting take all will take everything, but some items you have to examine to be able to pick up.

I already had a Z-machine interpreter, so I downloaded the game. Now I seem to be stuck at 55 points, still needing Chapter 8 of the book.

(Later) Never mind, I figured it out. So, after entering my code, I got this message:
"Badge Awarded - Arcade Escapee! You should recieve your award notification shortly."
Recieve? Doesn't anyone use spell checkers any more?

I still play the old Zork games occasionally.

And shouldn't this be in Gaming Discussion?
