I've signed up for a school trip there and whenever I bring it up people always coment on how "rough" it is there. So, since most of you are American here i was wondering, do you think i will get: shot, mugged, insulted due to my accent or genrally put in any bad situations?

Yeah, all those at once.

No seriously though if you stick with your group and your guide (I'm assumeing that they won't just cut you lose) and stay in public places like museums and historical landmarks then you should be fine.

On another note my reply to post text box seems to have shrunk to a tiny sliver of what it once was.

I don't know about muggings, but you might catch chronic myelogenous leukemia if you aren't careful.

Well,
Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I liked to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys
Who were up to no good
Startin making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'

I begged and pleaded with her day after day
But she packed my suite case and send me on my way
She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket.
I put my walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'.

First class, yo this is bad
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass.
Is this what the people of Bel-Air Living like?
Hmmmmm this might be alright.

But wait I hear there're prissy, wine all that
Is Bel-Air the type of place they send this cool cat?
I don't think sow
I'll see when I get there
I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air

Well, the plane landed and when I came out
There was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out
I ain't trying to get arrested
I just got here
I sprang with the quickness like lightening, disappeared

I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I can say this cab is rare
But I thought 'Now forget it' - 'Yo homes to Bel Air'

I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later'
I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air
-_-

I was born in the west part of Philadelphia, and also raised there.
I spent many of my days on the playground, relaxing and chilling out and playing basketball after school.
Then a couple of guys who were out looking for trouble started this fight, the only fight I've ever been in.
Because of this, my Mum said that I should go to Bel-Air to live with my Aunt and Uncle.

I know this adds nothing to the discussion, but I felt I should do it.

EDIT: Goddamn Ninjas!

If your in a group, no problems. No criminal would attack a group of 3 or 4 people, that's just asking for a beatdown.

Like most cities it really depends on where you go. I doubt that you're tour guides are going to send you and your group into the rougher parts of Philly.

Never been to Philly, but it can't be any worse than Baltimore, where you have to stay in the Inner Harbor for fear of seeing the rest of the city.

I live right outside of Philly (I'm going there tonight actually) and I can say that it is just as bad as you have heard. However, you will not be in any of those areas. In fact, most areas are very nice. It is a wonderful city. The people of Philly can be a bit over bearing at times, but for the most part they do their thing and don't care about you at all.

My best advice to you is do not talk about sports with people unless you are talking about either the Phillies, Flyers, 76ers, or Eagles. The people around here are very passionate about their sports teams and by passionate I mean that hate all other teams and their fans. They are not afraid to get into altercations with people.

I lived in Philly all my life, and nothing is going to happen to anybody on a school trip. Most of the historic monuments are in the "good" part of the city.

what kind of accent do you have?

OT: if it's at a uni, it's no worries I think, most people there are probably stoned or to lazy, most likely both.

That's where M. Night Shamalan hangs out. Be cautious lest ye find out that you are actually dead, living in modern times, and can be defeated by a mere glass of water.
