My current phone contract is due an upgrade and I have narrowed my choices down to two phones. The latest Samsung Galaxy or Iphone 4s. Which do you guys prefer and why?

They're both really good phones IMO. I bought an iPhone because of the features I wanted but I very nearly got a GS2. If you want a new phone just wait a few days as Samsung are supposed to be announcing the GS3 which will blow both of those phones out the water.

Relate it to your taste in PCs. You can do just about anything do the Galaxy. It has incredible functionality, as does every Android phone.

iPhones are basically the same thing but without the ability to customize it and get it to do what you want. It also has the brand, which is very important to some people. Every important app the iPhone has is also on the Android Market now, so that's no longer an issue.

Really, pick the cheaper one. I got a Droid 3 for 20 bucks and it does just about everything most iPhones do.

If you like iDevices, get an iPhone - it's a Touch that's still useful when you take it out of the house. Otherwise, get the Galaxy.

I find it hard to give up the turn by turn directions that comes free with Android phones. But apparently you're in Britland so you might actually take public transit or something. I've also come to love widgets and not having to open an app just to look at my calendar or see the weather info.

I'm an ex IOS user converted to android. I can't imagine going back now, so many features I have come to rely on.

Do you like Apple? Do you buy things for their brand name?
Apple tends to be closed circuit, you go apples way or go home both app and add-on wise. But that doesn't necessarily mean quality now (see http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115925-Counterfeit-Pokemon-Game-Tops-App-Charts). Getting replacement parts or batteries are an issue as well.

Android tends be more freeform with all that it entails, with some phones stuck on an older version due to higher requirements. Then again Android is very adaptable and can run things like flash (which Apple doesn't want).

I personally would go for the Samsung for it's upgradeability (both frimware and batteries) and it's micro SD card port.

I don't like some of the BS you have to put up with when owning an Iphone. The phones are great but I'll probably never own one. I recently got a Motorola Razr Maxx and love it. I went from a Motorola Droid 1 to it so it has a familiar feel but much more awesome. A buddy has the most recent galaxy phone on sprint and he likes it quite a bit. He had an Iphone a while back but switched when he noticed I wasn't restricted the way he was with an android phone.

Get an HTC phone. >.>

Like the HTC One X. It's awesome[footnote]Not from personal experience, it's just that the specs are really really really cool.[/footnote].

Or you could get the Samsung GSII. But like it's been already said, wait a bit since Samsung is prepping up for a launch for the SIII.

What personal experience does tell me is that HTC phones are really good to look at and they really do pack a serious punch under the hood. Plus, since they use Android OS, they're really good at being flexible and since all the popular apps of the iPhone are on the Play Store now, I mean even Temple Run people!, I see no reason to buy an iPhone. Lest you want recognition, 'cause that is what Apple has. In excess actually. :D

Just so you know Samsung are supposed to be announcing the GS3 today and apparently it's out at the end of May. I really would just wait a few weeks

My opinion is "Don't go with Apple". On the other hand, I don't know anything about you other than that you want a smartphone. Do you think you'll like the iPhone? It's mostly brand recognition there, for me the Android devices present way more freedom than iPhones. That's not to say that iPhones don't have their place, though - there is something for everybody.

I have an IPhone 4S myself, mostly because the processing is faster and the internet browser works like a charm. (Also cause it hold my thousands of songs, but that's just because I am too much of a music junky.)

I prefer Android because of the customisations, their marketplace (which isn't as closed and monopolised as Apple), also you have the option of installing the Amazon Appstore with a free App daily.

That being said, if you are more familiar with Apple/IOS products, just go with an Iphone, you'll be more comfortable and be able to use your phone better and that's all that matters in the end, your satisfaction.
