Pi * 1337% = 42. My mind is blown.

Division by zero is possible! And it breaks reality.
Given:
a=b
a[sup]2[/sup]=ab
a[sup]2[/sup]-b[sup]2[/sup]=ab-b[sup]2[/sup]
(a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
(a+b)=b
a+a=a
2a=a
2=1
In step 4, both sides are set to zero (a-b=0, so 0*each factor makes the equation 0=0). You don't divide the zero out.

You fail algebra forever.
That's if you stop and solve the equation there. But as it stands, they're still variables. If you continue algebraic simplification, you end up with the final numbers. You only divide by 0 in hindsight. And it's a joke anyway, kinda how like 1337% of pi isn't really 42, but it is with simple math.
I get that it's a joke, but some idiots believe that crap.

Some idiot on this thread won't bother with remembering that the OP equation doesn't really add up either. But if we want an equation that's more in line with the original,
2*2=X
2*(1+.5+.25+.125 etc.)=X (Geometric expansion)
2*(1+.5)=X (Reducing to 2 significant figures)
2*1.5=X
3=X
Therefore, 2*2=3

Fixed

Some idiot on this thread won't bother with remembering that the OP equation doesn't really add up either. But if we want an equation that's more in line with the original,
2*2=X
2*(.5+.25+.125 etc.)=X (Geometric expansion)

2*.75=X

I stuck a qualifier in there about 2 decimal places. Close enough for government work. :)

2*2=3, and for values of 2 where 2.25<X<2.5, 2+2=5. My Statistics professor used that as Exhibit A for why she'd mark us down if we ever rounded a figure before the final answer.

Fun times. Math is all sorts of fun. Because it makes perfect sense when it makes absolutely no sense at all.

You know that thing in some anime when a character hears something unexpected and they fall off balance, or sometimes completely call over? Always thought it was just an anime thing until I saw a few Japanese people do it in all seriousness. Which begs the question; is it art imitating life or life imitating art?

O+P+T+I+M+U+S = 15+16+20+9+13+21+19 = 113 is a Prime number; Optimus = Prime.

I saw that on the Twitrars and my mind exploded right then and there.

Which is all well and good but I like math a lot better when it's serving a purpose. The fact that A=L+E and if it doesn't, you are WRONG!!! is very comforting.

Debits and credits and net income statements
Depreciation and tax code abatements
Keeping compliance with government strings
These are a few of my favorite things

I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feeeeeeel so bad

an elite percentage of Pie equals the answer to the answer to the question of the life the universe and everything.

But it needs to go off into the wacky. It's how we move forward, looking into strange abstracts that may coincide with nature. Knowing enough math to calculate a margin of error means we can see what causes the margin of error. It's the strange math that leads us to forces unknown.

It does that too. Sometimes without being asked to.
