According to the Guardian, Piers Morgan has been axed from the CNN network and his talk show will come to end.

How do people feel about this?

I personally have a very low opinion of Piers Morgan, so I'd rather not see his face make a return to our screens here in the UK.

If the basis for him being axed is true and the focus for his rejection from American audiences is on the basis of him showcasing his opinion on the 2nd Amendment and gun laws in America, then I am not really backing the idea of him being fired.

At the end of the day, a prime-time TV show has to bring in the ratings to be able to continue on, so the network's hands are really tied on this one and there is only one right course of action for them, end the show. I still do not like the fact that someone can be rejected for voicing their opinion on a poignant topic which came to the front of the media in recent events in America. As Piers runs a show on current affairs, it only seems natural that he would comment on it.

However, I don't follow the show, for an obvious aforementioned reason, so maybe someone who has been subjected to it on a regular basis can confirm whether he has brought it up too often or can better understand the show's decline.

Perhaps I am just concerned that he will be coming back to the UK... could we just have a few more years without him back in the UK, please? Maybe he could try his hand at Australian media... or eastern Asia?...

No?... Please??...

About fucking time. Hope he goes back to the UK and gets put on trial for that phone hacking he's been running away from, the little pudgy cretin.

CNN finally woke up and realized that giving Piers Morgan a show was incredibly stupid because no one in America gives a flying fuck about who he is or what he thinks. He wasn't fired "for voicing his opinion," he was fired because no one cares about his opinion when he gives it, and that's kind of a problem when his job is supposed to be to entertain people with his opinions, so really he shouldn't have been hired in the first place. Guess CNN finally realized he was making them all look bad.

Yeah, sorta hoping they use real axes...

Now, if it was true that he was fired for being for gun control, rather than the US wanting to drive the horrible monster away with torches and pitchforks...hmmm...not quite the same...

Do you have an idea why they hired him in the first place?

I've never heard a good reason, as he has always been insufferable and he is far too much of an egomaniac to be able to effectively interview people. He just berates people and says what he wants to instead.

Perhaps he is trying to assert that the reason behind him leaving was that he made his opinions too loud, to try and distract people from the fact that he just had an unpopular show?

From what I've seen of his show however, I can't say I am confused as to why people can't stand watching it - other than the times when people come in and make him look like an idiot... always brings a certain level of satisfaction.

I'm no fan of Jeremy Clarkson, but he will forever have my gratitude for taking one for the team, by punching Piers Morgan in the face.

As far as is being reported, the reason they are ending his program is simply that the ratings are too low. Since the rating levels determine how much you can charge for advertising during the program, I suppose he simply isn't profitable anymore.

EDIT: Of for crying out loud, this is why I shouldn't post just before nodding off to sleep. You asked why he was HIRED, not FIRED. In regards to that, the best I could ever come up with was that he knew enough people in the business to get someone to agree to hire him. That sort of thing seems to happen all the time, especially in the entertainment industry (at least that's what I keep telling myself every time I see someone get a project green-lighted that never should have been made in my opinion)

I'm rather pleased he's been axed. The man is completely without redeeming qualities.

I'm also horrified that he might return to the UK and start... talking.
Can't you agree to keep him over there with some ego-massaging but utterly superfluous job in exchange for free Doctor Who licensing or something?

Off topic, but try typing 'Piers Morgan is a' into google with autocomplete turned on :D

Now there is a discussion! Has the introduction and works of Matt Smith, for the side of good, outweighed the damage caused by the introduction and works of Piers Morgan. I'm not thoroughly convinced myself, but it would be worth a debate.

All I can say is: sorry America, for taking our worst of British exports.

Why is 'Piers Morgan is smelly' the second option?. I love that douche is third, but how is smelly above this and the second most searched option? Has he incited the rage of, ill-versed in the way of foul language, small children? What invoked the wrath of the youngest generation to shoot their bile at him over the internet? Has he also got a warped agenda against Power Rangers and My Little Pony?

Piers Morgan... that smelly doo doo face!

I particularly liked his interview with Janet Mock, with IIRC, him just telling her to shut up and stop complaining, because of how much he supports her.

Its not even that.

He screams his opinion and lets no one else talk.

His "opinion" boils down you "this place, the only place that can give me a job, sucks and I refuse to give any real solutions!" Hell, his "evidence" for his opinion are incredibly vague with no context other than fear mongering.

He insults the country he is in and lacks any nuance or understanding of any social issue in America. He is the Glen Beck of CNN and somehow makes less sense. A neo nazi raping a baby would be charismatic than him.

He is basically a visitor that does nothing but complain about your house, and refusing to accept that you can't afford the fancy and expensive things he has. He tells you to "get a better job" and stop trying to defend your poorness.

If all he does is "this sucks, this place should be more like the UK" then how can you expect people to not be offended? If he said that in Mexico or a country with real world problems, he wouldn't be talking. Hell, he wouldn't even be standing.
I think it must be a different mentality to over here in England.

We seem to appreciate people visiting our country and reaffirming our own beliefs of how terrible our country is. We find some weird sense of satisfaction with the stamp of approval to validate our grumblings. We are a very negative nation, don't think there is a great sense of love of country or want to protect its image. However we collectively enjoy the ridiculing of it and somehow that in itself brings us together as a country, a joint need to laugh at our own surroundings.

He has worked at 'news' companies before and has never had to reasonably justify his own opinions and fear-mongering, so I assume he does not see any need to start now. Hopefully he will come back to the UK and see some sort of punishment for his crimes (especially involvement in phone hacking). Sadly there is not a law against being a prick though.

Perhaps we shall put aside our comparison of 'good' Matt Smith and 'bad' Piers Morgan, for your suggested battle of evil between Piers Morgan and baby raping neo-nazis. You may want to strap yourself in for a long ride though.

his show has been cancelled but not his work at CNN. apparently his show has been coming last in the ratings for that time slot so it was only a matter of time.

personally i didnt love or hate his show
Oh, that's interesting. That never even crossed my mind.

So he is still employed by them in some capacity? Do we know what for?

I guess I assumed this meant an end of relationships, if his show was to end.

Aw no, that just means he is going to be coming back here. We don't want him! Well, if he comes back here can we at least make him face his phone hacking crimes? The pompous git has been running from it! Send him elsewhere.... pretty please? My opinion of him is pretty low, too.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Most British people, hell I'd wager most people everywhere, feel a sense of smug superiority over all other nations of the world. David Mitchell did a good Youtube video where he talks about people using the term "Great Britain", a name he said came about because of Brittany and that literally means "bigger than part of france, but not bigger than all of France", to imply that British people are somehow better than everyone else.

You do realize Piers did a lot more than voice his opinion on gun control, right? He has a whole host of episodes where he vociferously insults the American people and the American government because of gun rights. He encouraged the government to pass gun control against the will of the people, a huge no-no in a representative government. He didn't just voice his opinion on it, he personally attacked large segments of the population with alarming frequency. So no, this isn't just because of his opinion, it's because he was a gigantic asshat to 45% of Americans on a consistent basis.

I guess it's more comedy-realm where we like to be self-deprecating.

We are like the only country that put an adjective in our name. I guess that is pretty arrogant.

I'm never sure if Piers does it to be deliberately controversial to try and get more media attention (after all, he knows how that works at least) or if he really believes it and is just very forceful with his beliefs.

In reference to David Mitchell, did Piers use his show as a soap box and people had enough of that or was it just a poor show regardless?

And then later her heroically aired his grievances with her on Twitter. He had already been kind enough to shut down and refused to consider her experiences several times, it's really just unfair that she would continue having a perspective on issues that she's more personally familiar with.

No, I didn't realise.

This is why I admitted my limited knowledge on the day-to-day actual content of his programme and asked if someone could possibly fill in the gaps on the delivery of his point of view and how ham-fisted and often he did it.

I hate on Piers Morgan regardless of what he does, so it's hard to see it without the immense bias in my mind. I'm trying to think of it if it had been someone else.

I guess when it is topical it had a point, but if he just used his show to push an agenda over and over then that is what ended up pissing people off?

i'm genuinely torn here...

on one hand, i'm glad misfortune has come to him and he lost his job, but i'm also upset that he might now come back to the UK, and i've been reminded that he isn't dead...

overall, i guess this news sucks
