Death Metal seems like the wrong genre to expect anything less than an abundance of stupidity and sexual frustration from.
Generalisation based on stereotypes is bad. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTKxGhf2Yyw]
If we're gonna do Amon Amarth pimping, then this song just HAS to be linked:

These are both well written pieces of music. There's a lot more to death metal than you think.
To you. The lyrics mean nothing to me.

Personally, death metal could have the best lyrics in the world. I don't like the sound. Its annoying, to me a cheese grater has a better sound than those type of music.

I LOVE how single minded everyone is and how they LOATH metal(!). I hate these rant threads, and they are getting more and more common.
I don't know what forums you've been on, but from what I've seen at least 3/4 of the Escapist are metal-heads. Most anti-metal threads are people who like one kind of metal talking about how they don't like a different kind of metal.

All this death metal was cool to me like 4 years ago back in high school. I admit it was cool then but now I can't listen to it anymore. I grew out of all that. I can't understand what is said in songs like that. It sounds like a bunch of noise. :S
And , judging by your name, you have grown out of Death Metal and into one of the best bands ever, congratulations.

I don't particularly like death metal, headbanging is fun for a few minutes but then I go immediately back to something that won't rob me of my hearing before I am of age to vote.

I'm not talking lyrics.

To me, a cheese grater sounds better than Metallica and all those other bands that every preaches about.

But I'm sure I'LL be labeled the dick for bashing "mainstream metal" instead of every other person that comes in and says death metal is mindless racket.

I just posted that one because I already had that page open when I got to this thread. I could have used almost any of their songs as examples.

Ugh, can there be a rule that in the future, lead singers have to actually be able to SING to be in a band?

Pretty much why I commented on the music an lyrics.

*shrug* Metallica has a sound I could tolerate, but I have no interest in their music. It can be kind of boring at times.

Ever consider that if your not into the genre you probably won't like the sound of it.
Pretentious people trying to say what music is and isn't are stupid. I don't like Amon Amarth really, so if you think thats bad you probably don't want to look up Carnifex

Withdraw your statement! I'm not saying you're ignorant, but I think you're a sad individual if there is nothing in Metallica's huge collection you don't like. They vary enough that you have subspecies of Metallica fans, hugging to certain albums or era's as their band evolved or twisted into something better/worse. It's the same for Death metal, but you want to try and preach some wider tolerance while saying things like this?

Hypocrisy stains the soul.

That's why I listen to death metal. It's perfeclty orchestrated chaos that meshes together into something beautiful. Granted, there are a TON of lame bands that are branded as death metal that give the thought that all death metal is mindless and without talent. But there are so many more that go unnoticed and the genre as a whole suffers for it.

Truthfully, I don't mind being the minority when it comes to liking death metal. I just feel the need to defend it when people call it random noise. XD

That was intended as a broad generalization, not as a specific shot at Metallica. And I'm not really preaching tolerance, just merely saying that there is more to death metal than what a lot of people think.

Every music genre has those types of bands though.
Death Metal seems to take so much heat because people really need a different type of ear to enjoy it. I can't, personally, but there are obvious differences between those who are trying to do it right and those that really do lack the talent.

Metal is a great genre. However, screamo lyrics can die in a fire anyway. It doesn't make a song sound more awesome/aggressive/menacing/whatever. Incomprehensible screaming just sounds like a troll throwing a tantrum. Actual lyrics are much more appreciated, as far as I'm concerned. However, this pig squealing stuff sounds even more ludicrous than usual.

I used to hate death metal too in all honesty. Then the Reverend Nathan Explosion and his fellow priests showed me there is a different path to follow.

Now I've branched out to Amon Amarth. :D I'm still pretty picky, but I'm more willing to sit down and listen.

(All hail Dethklok)
Dethklok kick ass, despite being a slight pisstake :p
Also I'm pretty into Death Metal, but pig squealing does sound pretty terrible on the whole. Can't stand Cradle of Filth or Job For A Cowboy, pretty much FOR their vocal styles (granted they're just two examples that are pretty different)
I've seen Mastodon live, and they put on a pretty good show.

Is Mastodon "Death Metal"? "Blood and Thunder" is about the novel "Moby Dick".

EDIT: they could have been making Whale sounds(poorly)
