Hey, Escapists on the... well, the Escapist(duh).

Recently I started playing Pokémon, or well, I'm replaying Heart Gold to kill my boredom when my brother or mom kicks me off the computer and I have nothing else to do, or when I'm on the bus.

And so I wondered to myself...

Do Pokémon die?

I mean, there's not any hints to it being the case, I think, and it's not like you stumble over corpses in the woods all the time(that is, you never stumble upon anything like that) or you hear some news about an old pokémon passing away...

So what do you think, Escapists? Do pokémon die? Do they just dissapear, and live forever? If they do die, do they decay like all other living creatures or just poof out of existence?

EDIT: Oh, right. *Slaps forehead* I recently read that thing about Cubone wearing it's moms skull. -_- *Forgetful*
And sorry pokémon fans, I have Pokémon Red, borrowed it from a friend but never got around to playing it, I'm such a graphics junkie.

Anyway, I'm still curious as to what happens to them when they're dead. Do they decay, which is most likely, or does something more kid friendly happen?

PIKACHU WILL LIVE FOREVER!!!!!

OT: I assume they die, yes, as there is a cemetery in Lavender Town, isn't there?

They faint, and by miracles of modern science are brought out of their battle-induced comas in Pokemon centers.

Duh.

In the anime Gary's Raticate is beaten in a battle, there on a boat so they can't get it to a Poke Centre in time to help it and you never see Raticate owned by Gary again, so it most likely died.

They do die. If you replay fire red version or any game from that specific region in the game, (Sorry I can't remember what region it was) There is a time when you come to, I think lavender town with a massive Pokemon Tower in the town. It is explained that in that tower are the graves of Pokemon I think from a massive battle and just normal peoples pets who have alas died. There I hope I answered your question :D

In the game it say an unconscious pokemon has "lost the will to fight"

but I think most pokemon can live for an absurdly long time; like the prehistoric ones

Edit: WAIT!! I forgot about cubone. it wears the skull of its dead mother.... so i guess they can

This.

I haven't played any Pokémon games after Red/Blue so I'm not sure if you've returned there in the newer ones... perhaps you have to have played the first games to know the answer to this question =P

I'm guessing you're not familiar with the story of Blue's Raticate... I'd rather not talk about it. Google it if you must, but beware of nightmare fuel.

They don't outrightly die because one of the original creators (Satoshi Taji-whatever, the one that collected bugs as a boy) thought there was too much death in games, and that it cheapened real death, so he said they fainted instead.

But trying doing the Nuzlocke Challenge. I lost my first 'mon the other day thanks to Team Rocket.

RIP Spencer x <3

Not in the games, and it's implied in the show. Pokemon are dead, but they don't die if that makes any sense.
