Is there any way that someone can get into trouble for downloading video games in Canada?

Technically no. Currently the only punishment for pirating video games is losing the respect of other people.

Why would you want to be a pirate in Canada? Somalia is the place to be! Yarr!

But seriously, i think only the people who share them can get in trouble. I doubt that gaming companies are tracing every single downloader.

How can something be both ninja and pirate? I think that breaks the theory of relativity or something.

Yes, international copy-right laws. But I'm not sure if you'll be prosecuted....you'll definitely gain the ire of the video game community though

I actually clicked on this topic thinking it was going to have something to do with the conflict off the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.

Does this mean I am thick?

No, but I clicked it hoping to drop a reference to that or Southpark. Nothing came to me when I read the thread though.

It's illegal but chances are you won't get in trouble for it. Do you have any idea how many people pirate things every day? The chances of the government even caring are slim.

100% chance that you get all the entertainment you ever need for free.
0,00058% chance that you're the unfortunate guy who goes to court.

If this is the level of morality we are at, I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

But did it happen before that someone went to court because he downloaded a game?

Something can be part Ninja and part Pirate, because all occupations in life can be boiled down to a percentage of Pirate-ness and Ninja.

Anyway back on topic, Piracy is bad. Simple, if you bought a game and it stoped working then I'd say Pirating the game is moraly ok, if not legaly.

But if you just want to play a game without paying for it then that's wrong, the fact piracy is illegal shouldn't be your main concern.

Yes, a pinball game maker sued the shit out of some pore sap.
