i think it's because they truly realize what makes a good movie and will make films that anyone can enjoy regardless of age. I hope that the kids who grew up with Pixar will grow up knowing what makes a good movie as well so we may get a second golden era of film. I have a theory about why all the movies now are terrible as well. A majority of directors in the 70's-80's grew up in the baby-boom era where many new ideas were being tried to give America an identity meaning they grew up with a melting pot of culture. the directors of today were mostly generation X who rejected all the norms of society and decided to make pop-culture their culture meaning all of their movie are unoriginal remakes of something from their childhood or based of some pop-culture dribble from the 80's. I can only hope that as generation Y enters the film industry that they have learned what a good movie is and have ideas of their own... but that may be a shallow hope since (having just graduated high school) I've noticed the majority of people fit into the "douche" archetype, meaning that their lives are heavily based around clothes and rap. One can only hope that people with original ideas can influence the movie industry and keep uncreativeity out.
