I don't think anyone at Bethesd actually went: " Oh yes, the Fallout universe is totally original and never took inspiration from any other work of fiction ever, all the stuff in it was originally created by us."
Only Fallout 3 was Bethesda.
Someone has stated this three times, and I think you should stop now.

Y'know, they could've just been referencing the actual SkyNet. It's a family of military satellites (and their ground-based control systems,) the first of which were launched in 1969. No plagiarism here... assuming you ignore the context of the game's Skynet.

That referencing in games is called Easter Eggs. All games have it here and there, some are harder to find and are injokes of the devs, others are more common knowledge. It's not plagiarism.

FO3 Easter Eggs [http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/wiki/Fallout_3_Easter_Eggs/]
Fo2 Easter Eggs [http://www.eeggs.com/tree/723.html]

Ask Auntie Google about Fallout Easter Eggs and she will find you "about 199,000" pages.

It is also the name of a satellite system in Canada

ALSO:
I met a guy named Algernon, stole from him and discovered he had flowers in his inventory.
I'm hoping that this is a reference to the Ray Bradbury short story "Flowers for Algernon"

If not, it still made me laugh

Most fans of the Fallout series dislike Fallout 2 because of the ridiculous number of pop-culture references.

You have just named one of many examples.
See the [a href="http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_series"]Fallout Wiki[/a]

[blockquote]However, it also included several questionable changes to the game world, including significantly more pop culture jokes and parodies. [/blockquote]
Most fans of the Fallout series dislike everything except Fallout 1, it seems.

Morons. I'm happy liking Fallout 3 and being ignorant toward the other 2.

I was playing Fallout 2 the other day for the first time and I came across a quest where you had to assemble a robobrain named... Skynet...

I know it's a reference to Terminator.
Plagiarism sounds cooler, though.

Did you guys find any other references in any of the Fallout games?
The Fallout games are so jam packed with references that trying to list all of them is futile. All the references are purposeful and are a part of the game.

For example...

Fallout 3 the quest called "the replicated man" refers to the replicants in the book "Do robots dream of electric sheep?"
This quest pays tribute to at least three prominent science fiction works. The quest's name is a reference to the Ray Bradbury book The Illustrated Man, while the android's plotline -- a synthetic human seeking to integrate seamlessly with human society -- is reminiscent of Asimov's The Bicentennial Man. The Lone Wanderer's role here -- potentially capturing and returning a wayward synthetic human to its masters -- reminds an astute player of Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, a darker story far more widely known as the basis for the film Blade Runner. Blade Runner's synthetic humans were called "replicants."
From the Fallout wiki. I can't be arsed to take direct credit for it :p Most games these days seem to be full of references these days. I like it, it means I can play them through a few times trying to play spot the reference :p

You should really give them a chance. Don't let rampant fractious fanboyism deprive you of of many, many hours of gaming goodness. I've always seen them as being like the Evil Dead films.
All three are excellent games, even if the tone changes between installments.

There is a reference to a poem called "There Will Come Soft Rains", where a house reads it out loud. It's pretty cool.

I most likely will at one point. I think I actually own the first one too.

There are far too many references to name, and from so varied a list of sources. Just looking at fallout 2 you have references ranging from King Arthur and the Holy Grail (the holy hand grenade) to red shirts from star trek (quite literally red shirts).

Did you even bother to read my four sentence OP?
Plagarism is not the same as referencing. Referencing involves putting an easter-egg of sorts that mentions or involves another work of entertainment (in the Fallout 2 case); while plagarism is taking somebody else's work, such as writing or music, and putting your name on it. Just thought I'd point that out.

Fallout 2 is the most reference-heavy game in the series, and it didn't help the game. It could have gone without it, but it wouldn't have been as special as it was

If you know it's a reference, why then refer to it as plagiarism? As cool as it may sound to you, they are hardly the same thing.

Anyway, reading the list of FO3 references, I can't believe I never thought of linking the vault jumpsuit and audio recording you find in Paradise Falls to that Penny Arcade comic. Duh!

I was making a reference to a Futurama quote but failed
"Bribery's such an ugly word, I prefer 'extortion' the X makes it sound cool"

Well, sort of. The poem comes from the short story of the same name by Ray Bradbury, about an automated house that continues on its daily routine (making breakfast, vacuuming) long after a nuclear war has killed its inhabitants.
