Good post, nice to hear about some epic coordinated play. =)
I need to get in an outfit, because it's getting a bit tame to never know what's going on where.

Ok, I won't be able to play the game until the Mac port comes out...but you're both wrong.

It's okay. The scale is truly is epic and when you're part of a zerg to cleanse an entire server of the enemy then it's nigh peerless. Unfortunately, those zerg rushes are the exception, not the rule, and the meat and potatoes of it is rather bland. Even the zergs can get tedious once you realize the enemy isn't trying to or cannot fight back.

I say it's bland because it sacrifices intuitive gameplay for RPG elements and group cohesion. I prefer a high-risk, high-reward style of play, something that allows me to snake my way around behind the enemy and slaughter them mercilessly. Or hide and ambush people. Or or or... those aren't options here, not really. Because the weapons are so weak, even the rocket launchers, you can't kill more than one or two halfway competent players before the rest turn around and blow you away. What'll actually happen is in this scenario is, you spend five minutes worming your way out the back door, running from cover to cover, find a group of four or five players, open fire on the back of somebody's head, and... their group has the time to turn around, level their weapons on you, and deplete your health points much more quickly than you can deplete theirs.

Caution and cooperation are rewarded, but again that's at the expense of excitement. Frontal assaults mean popping out of cover, shooting at someone who takes far too long to die, then hiding long enough for someone to come along and heal you or just for your meter to replenish itself. In this case I'm not really thinking that I'm a high-stakes shootout where my life is endangered, I'm thinking, "Welp, I've got two seconds left before I die, better press shift again."

It's absolutely worth trying since it's free but it's not something I see myself playing for a long time. I give it yawn out out of yawn yawns.

You're just jealous because we have the coolest trailer.

I mean honestly? This? Really? That's the best you guys can do?

When I went in, it didn't seem all that coordinated. And I get the appeal, I really do, but after a while I just kept getting killed over and over because the other side had surrounded our base with tanks. I guess it just seemed like a "get killed, respawn, repeat" rat race without much of a point other than the constant ebb and flow of base capture. Any suggestions for me to get more into this?

Don't stand in front of bullets or tank shells and stick together with your allies. You're right in that a faction usually is an uncoordinated lynch mob but that still beats going at it alone.

Alternatively, join an outfit and attack smaller bases with a handful of friends. This has probably been the most fun I've had in the game outside of zergs. You can even make a dint in the bigger battles with a small coordinated group of 3-4 because everything usually is so disorganized.

It's also worth noting that if a spawn zone is surrounded with that many tanks then the facility is probably already lost and you may be better off spawning somewhere else.

Yeah I just started playing last night and wound up spending about 5 hours straight travelling with a 12 man Vanu squad. The teamwork is really what makes the game so addictive I think. My only complaint is that it does take a huge mass of resource to run smoothly, once I get my settings fixed up for this rig I think it should be fine though.

I find it comparable in a way to Team Fortress 2 but its on a much larger scale.

Because much like in TF2 a small organised team of 6 can rape, murder and pillage the disorganised nitwits by the dozen.

I want to love this game, and its sooooo close to being absolutely addictive. But until it's optimized for anything besides the Monolith, i just cant get into it. I have a decent enough computer, but like many others my framerate makes it frustrating to continuously die because i couldnt aim straight with 18 FPS. The game definitely could have used a month or two more in development, so im hoping in a few months time it will be well optimized and i can enjoy it as much as i really, really want to.

The best we can do is dominate 2 continents at a time on my server and be in a 3 way tie for the third all day every day, Rebel!

Eh.
Maybe it's just because my processor is bad, but I find that it's pretty much always 20 fps no matter the graphics setting that gradually gets smaller as shit starts going down.
Even when I do get into firefights the guns kind of feel like crap and it seems like people can take way too many shots.
Also the spawn system is kind of dick, meaning that I die in one place, set myself to spawn in one of the mobile spawn point things, and then find out that there's 2 tanks just sitting around killing anyone who comes along.
Turning down the shadows and the lighting worked for me, and I run a medium-end PC(though I do only play at 720p, but at 60FPS & medium-high-very high settings).
I've got everything on minimum and low resolution and it still chugs.
Fairly certain it's my CPU, pretty much everything else is pretty good and up to date but I got it on the cheap from family just so I could have something run. Planning to get a new one soon.

Out of interest, what is your CPU?(Also, if you're on a budget, AMD are due to release a new line of processors soon methinks)

Intel 2 Quad 2.66 GHz according to DxDiag.
But I'm kind of on the opposite of a budget so I've been looking to get an Intel i7 2600 or something similar.

It's that damn purple spandex!

Reduces your hitbox so you don't get hit.

And then those weapons! No bullet-drop and low-recoil? Pussies! Do you think aiming is supposed to be easy or something?

Get a real man's gun, one with enough kickback to knock out your front teeth and make you look like an epileptic trying to hit the broad side of a barn!

i have severe performance issues that really shouldn't happen with my hardware and i have the typical MMO problem where i hate the idea that get stuck with a squad of idiots and end up having to fight way better organised foes, resulting in me not having a chance and being frustrated. oh and time, i just don't have free time any more that i can accept those terrible moments and wait for the glorious shit when i can do reliably glorious shit in single player games.

Everyone knows Vanu is the true master race of Auraxis
do every faction have a jetpack?

and what speaks for your faction?
Every faction's infantry (including jetpacks) are mostly the same with some minor differences.

Vanu generally have the guns with the best accuracy and lowest recoil (due to using energy weapons) but average damage and rate of fire.
New Conglomerate generally have the guns with the most damage but low rate of fire and high recoil (due to using magnetic weapons).
Terran Republic generally have the guns with the highest rate of fire but low damage and average recoil as well as bigger magazines (due to using normal bullets).

However there's enough variety in guns to give every faction just about everything. You can unlock high rate of fire weaponry as Vanu, high damage weaponry as TR and accurate weapons as NC.

One thing to note is that the NC's starting guns are a bit odd. The other two factions start with general purpose weapons for their Heavy Assault and Infiltrator (using Light Machine Guns and Sniper Rifles respectively) that are average across all categories where the NC Heavy Assault starts off with a long-range LMG that doesn't perform quite as well up close and their Infiltrator starts off with a bolt-action Sniper Rifle that likewise suffers up close but makes up for it by being able to kill instantly with headshots. You can unlock the across the board average weapons after a few days of playing easily though.

The biggest difference to be honest is in the Tanks, Aircraft are as far as I'm aware pretty equal. Vanu have the magrider which floats, giving it the unique ability to move sideways and making it the most manouvrable of the three. Best in smaller engagements but suffers in larger ones where there's not much room and missiles flying everywhere. NC have the toughest tank, lots of armor and lots of damage but not very fast or agile, it's great against other tanks but not quite as good against infantry. TR are the opposite, their tank is very fast and has an unique 2-shot main weapon which can devastate infantry but it's lower damage and lower armor make it more vulnerable against other tanks.
