You're just jealous because we have the coolest trailer.

I mean honestly? This? Really? That's the best you guys can do?

Trust the smurf to put value on a recruitment video championing anarchy and a disorganised militia

We intellects have

Laser turret optional

and most importantly, the vanu party bus

I liked PS2 but it isn't really my thing. Teamwork is needed to do well and I like playing on my own (mostly).

Only complaint I have is that I can't max it without dipping below 30 FPS during big-ish battles.
It looks good, but not good enough to need that much power.

It's that damn purple spandex!

Reduces your hitbox so you don't get hit.

And then those weapons! No bullet-drop and low-recoil? Pussies! Do you think aiming is supposed to be easy or something?

Get a real man's gun, one with enough kickback to knock out your front teeth and make you look like an epileptic trying to hit the broad side of a barn!
Yes the no bullet drop enticed me. I learned only afterwards that bullet drop was replaced with damage drop-off at a distance. But it's of no consequence if you make every shot!

Our tanks are the most maneuverable! And the flashy cannon barrages make sure you know it's the Vanu who are attacking!

Best air v air in the game!

I hope you like purple shapes. Especially polygons!

You dirty dirty smurf.......

Prepare to be enlightened
I had an amusing experience with a Vanu yesterday.

Playing as a NC heavy I came face-to-face with a VS light assault. I opened fire, only to find that my LMG only had two bullets left... both of which missed (welcome to NC, you'll hurt them... if you ever hit them). With a sigh I triggered my force field and commenced my three minute reload. He took his plastic, purple Hasbro gun and pew-pew-pew'd his whole magazine into me. Then he pulled out a sidearm and gave me some of that. Then he charged me, possibly intending to melee. By that time I was done reloading and promptly hosed him down. Still had about 25% of my health left.

You'd think all that fancy tech would have produced something with more impact than the common spitball.

Have to agree with OP. I've had so many epic moments, including being part of a sniper firing line spread about along ridgelines and mountains, keeping the enemy from launching air support from the base.
I started without watching the introductory videos and only a cursory look at the keybinds and controls. Dropping in fresh was beautiful chaos and advancement seems organic, meaning that, as a player: Starting out as an infiltrator meant I had to get accustomed (and am still doing so) to the fall of a round and how to properly be stealthy. (Again. Still learning that.) But the epic moments in that game are always truly epic. ANd it will have my love for a long time.

the game seems to find a good balance between PUG and organized and it has a lot of potential.

im still in the Noob phase. Spent 7 hours (according to steam) in the game, but ive only actually played for like 30 minutes.

Oh yea, F you game for dropping me the middle of 10 guys when i first created a character.

I was all like "oh hai guys, im new. Isnt this game great. Hey that is some nice armor you got there.....why are you all pointing your guns at me?"

I've just installed it yesterday, going to jump on over the weekend. What timezone are you in?
I play on Briggs, the Australian server.

My timezone is GMT +10, although the actual times I play are all over the place.

Nah, I don't have it.

Besides, there's not a lot of point to having a group of two.

However, if you ever see me in a squad/platoon feel free to join. My name in-game is "Zhukov087".

Most of the time people just charge into the meat grinder otherwise known as The Crown. And on the odd occasion people will get their shit together. And when they do, it's gets amazing. we're talking coordinated galaxy drops, tank columns, armour convoys, infiltration, army mobilization right before your eyes. That type of shit. And every time you see it, it's always amazing.

The game is incredibly poorly optimised, and the whole thing with the weapon unlocks is incredibly iffy - yeah, sure, everything gameplay-related can be unlocked through gameplay, but most of the guns cost terrible amounts of certs, and it's just easier to pay real money for them. In my opinion the "spend time or spend money" kind of f2p is no better than "pay-to-win" kind.

Still, I really like the game, I just think it's a bit raw.

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC in order to play Planetside 2. When the original first came out it was a real blast, and if it provides me with only half the enjoyment the original did, I'll be well pleased.

Tried to run it on my existing PC and the game just pointed at my set-up and laughed. :S

So Happy (insert holiday of choice here) to me - I get a new gaming rig. :)

P.S. Old TR player here - are the MagMowers still as bad as they used to be ?

They do, its called the lasher. It has max damage and is practically unstoppable. Its the reason it costs 1,000 certs.

You know when it hits you.
Wait... what's this? Someone else has a powerful gun!?

Time to go to the forums and start howling to get it nerfed and that everyone except me is horribly overpowered and the developers are clearly playing favourites by giving certain faction the best stuff!

...

Yeah. The Planetside forums are a horrible place.

Blimey. I remember that old chestnut from playing the first version. The more things change, the more they stay the same....

Being old and relatively wise, I generally avoid forums for MMOs. It sounds like it'll just be the usual stuff anyway - NC and TR complaining about overpowered lashers and magriders, NC and VS bitching about TR minigun accuracy and fire-rates and TR and VS moaning about NC scatterguns being 'too effective' at close range. Or a variant on the same.

Call me when they actually take 5 seconds to optimize the game

and another 5 to balance the factions.
