Right-click on the shortcut on the desktop, set to run as administrator and in Win95 (Win98/ME may work as well). Then follow the directions in <a target=_blank href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.84500.1206148>this post to set yet another file to compatability mode (first step gets the launcher, second gets the game executable).

Links to additional troubleshooting tips (including non-Vista related issues) are in <a target=_blank href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/6.83789.1179736>this post.

Edit: I am also still trying to figure out the hacker and engineer thing. Yesterday i kept hearing people yell about needing hackers and what not but I am unsure about what they do or even where the people yelling for them are at.
You mostly hear people wanting a hacker to either:
1) Hack the control console of a tower to switch it to your side
2) Hack an equipment terminal while attacking an enemy base. This allows your side to pull equipment from the terminal.
You have to be an Advanced Hacker to do #2. Anyone can do #1, but it is very slow for non-hacker types, so they will yell for a hacker and will typically provide cover while the hacker does his thing.

For repairs, most players have the engineering cert and are able to repair themselves and others. The main players that need repair help are:
1) MAXes. They can't repair themselves, so players will help them with repairs. More ppl repairing = faster repair.
2) Vehicles. Most drivers have eng so they can repair their own vehicle. However, it can take 1 person quite a while to repair a big veh like a tank. Multiples repairing it is a big help. If you don't have eng (or don't have your big glue gun), stay in the veh and watch for trouble. Use darklight and watch for cloakers in particular. They love to whack a veh driver b/c it leaves the veh stranded. Not quite as cool as blowing up the veh, but still effective. Plus if the gunner runs off, they can jack it.

As a newbie, don't worry about the hacking stuff. There are others who can take care of that. But feel free to help out with as much repairing as you like. It is easy to do, furthers the cause, and repairs count toward the WAR competition I think.

Well, Doccan, I have learnt, is a lunatic. Never, ever, under any circumstances, get in a tank with him.
And never rely on Goblin to back you up in his lightning, I can guarantee he will be miles away cowering behind a tree. That or trying to earn an Insane Stunt Bonus.
I wouldn't need to cower behind a tree if Doccan knew the difference between an AMS and a BFR! And you can't blame a bloke for trying to grab some air.

On a another note, you're the second person to call me goblin. Dunno where the name came from. Not that I mind, mind.
We've already worked out that acronyms confuse him, he can't help this. LLU, BFR, AMS, ANT, WTFLOL - it's all the same to Doccan.

Oh yeah. Well Goblin is sort of Gremlin-ish, maybe you should make the change permanent?

Hmm.

Last night, on my Vista PC, I did the fix that involved switching the .exe to 98/ME compatibility mode. But this meant that the launcher ITSELF wouldn't run.

Anyone have a fix for this?
Possibly. It's a little complex, but a lot of the planetside launch icons aren't actually linked to the .exe. For example, if you did that from the start menu, it's actually trying to fire up the launcher, not the .exe itself. The best bet is to find planetside.exe in program files, set that as admin and compatability, then find the launchpad.exe, and set that admin but ensure it isn't compatability, then use the launchpad.exe and fire up planetside from that.

Tempting, but then I'd feel I'd have to fly on a hoverboard and throw exploding pumpkins.

Sorry about my sudden log-out yesterday, guys. My internet connection sucked and then it just went. Unfortunately that was at about 2-ish so I decided to try get some sleep instead of fixing my connection (damn school)

I personally fly the wasp. Very good for Air-to-Air hit and run tactics. Although I was providing airstrikes for Doccan in a reaver yesterday. That was fun.

I've been trying for a few days to get planetside going on my comp, only had a few hours after work but if I don't get it going today I may have to pull out.
I really want to play but this friging comp is being picky, I'll keep you guys informed cause though I'd love to kick ass I don't want to take a place from someone else, but I want to try.
So I'll send a PM if this doesn't work.

I've bought an old copy of Planetside from my friend he has the CD's so installing them now.

Even though I have a badge I don't have a CD Key Code, I've PM'ed Spin and I can't seem to log onto Mumble.
My Epic struggle continues, good news however I've got Planetside going.
