Well I'm a little undecided here, then. How optimized for gaming is 8 compared to 7? I mean what's the real benifit I would get out of it?
According to what I've read Windows 8 generally edges ahead a little when it comes to frames per second though in rare cases it can go the other way - regardless the difference is usually negligible. It's certainly a fair bit quicker when it comes to general use though and it powers on and off like lightning by comparison. There's also support for future versions of DirectX that won't be available on 7 to consider, though again that's not an immediate concern.

So yeah...for gaming it's somewhat of a plus but doesn't make a huge deal of difference. As far as I can tell is shares a similar level of compatibility with games as 7 does...I haven't run into any games that won't run on 8 yet, except when I decided to go back and try to play Gunz Online which has a dodgy anti-cheat system that crashes on 8, though that's less a problem with the game itself working than how the anti-cheat interacts with the system (they'll probably fix that shit eventually). It's certainly been one of the most stable Windows launches I've encountered...people only ever seem to complain about Metro rather than how many times it crashes per day which wasn't quite the case with Vista or even 7 (I know I had more than a few BSODs when 7 launched).

On the other hand there is this..
Inconceivable!
Yeah...he couldn't find the control panel? There is like a dozen ways to get there, only one of which was changed from 7...as much as he insists he isn't dumb and knows how to use like a million different operating systems, I'm not buying it. I mean, he's still bitching about the ribbon in Microsoft Office...I thought everybody had worked out it was an improvement by now.
