Play Gears of War 3, Unlock Dapper Threads for Your Avatar

If Marcus Fenix is your fashion icon, Gears of War 3 has some very special treats in store for you.

Fans of the Gears of War series will get the chance to personalize their Xbox avatar to display their love for the series, without having to spend anything extra on digital clothing, simply by working their way through the various gameplay modes that Gears of War 3 has to offer.

The game has three different garments that players can unlock: a Horde t-shirt, a Locust mask, and a Marcus Fenix do-rag. The t-shirt is unlocked when the player gets the "Welcome to the Horde" achievement, and the mask is unlocked when the player gets the "Welcome to the Beast Mode" achievement. Finally, the do-rag is a reward for completing the game's campaign, presumably on any difficulty.

Wearing all three items at once might be a little on the tricky side, but it does mean you can create multiple Gears-themed outfits without paying extra. Of course, if that's the sort of thing you're into, chances are you've shelled out for some Gears 3 items already. Still, if you combine the do-rag with the COG armor costume and Lancer prop, you could be the next Marcus Fenix.

Gears of War 3 comes out for Xbox 360 on September 20th.

When I read the title I thought that finishing Gears of War 3 unlocked alternative costumes for Marcus, for multiplayer or another playthrough. I already imagined him walking around in 'dapper threads'; a suit with a tailcoat and a top hat.

Buuut nooooo, it's some kind of stupid 360 avatar thing. Blah.

... Games having unlockable avatar awards is now news? It's not done as often as it should be, but there are a fair few out there with said awards attached. I think 'Splosion Man was the first?
