Why hasn't a group of budding developers torn apart the game and made a fan made version of episode 3 yet? Any rabid fan would *KNOW* WHERE (the ship and on the way to the ship) and WHO and WHY. The hard part would be making a suitable twist of such for the ending. If indeed that IS the ending or just a cruel joke for part 4...

They might have a time counter at Steam that says "Half-Life 3 Release Date in T-Minus..." and every time someone asks about the game, they reset the counter.

But c'mon guys, making games isn't easy. They need a title first.

But hey, it's been a while since I've played HL2, I'll load up my steam copy and give it a shot!

Hmm, well I don't have Steam. Is there any result from playing it on the Xbox?
I'd imagine that there wouldn't be. As the creators of Steam, Valve has direct access to see what people are playing on the platform at any given time. AFAIK, the Xbox 360 (or original Xbox, if you bought that version) doesn't offer that sort of functionality.

I didn't think it was asking for Half life Episode 3 or Half life 3. I thought it was just asking Valve to tell us something. even if it is go and fuck off, just nice to hear from them. and i found this.

Why such a short timeframe? A half hour isn't really going to catch much attention, in my opinion. Why can't the full Saturday be this whole "Red Letter Day" thing?

Is there anything more obnoxious than a HL fan?
For fucks sake people. Valve knows theres a market for HL, they have not scrapped the franchise, they clearly are going to release it at some point. Can we please just have a couple months without everyone fucking whining about it?
I honestly hope to god that Gabe delays it on purpose just for everyone pissing him off over it.

Sadface. I hoped they might have something like what Bioware had for Mass Effect 2: the ability to anonymously track when certain things (for example, the number of each class created, average time to completion, the number of times a character was imported, etc).

Oh well. I'll still probably play it. Still haven't finished all the Episodes, I've been far too busy.

Has anyone considered that they're delaying it BECAUSE of things like this? They know people want it really bad so they're taking their time and making sure it's perfect. There are plenty of other games out there to play while you wait. Anyway, I doubt this will get any responce from Valve.

Hum I'm divided between thinking Valve should provide some sort of acknowledgment as a common courtesy and thinking that gamers are entitled assholes demanding something they aren't necessarily entitled to (development be secret yo). Hum, not sure if should participate or complain.

If Valve announces any game that ISN'T Episode 3, I vote that absolutely NO ONE buys it. We won't eat everything they give us. Left 4 Dead was great, but then Left 4 Dead 2 came a year later, then Portal 2...

The point is, I don't want Half-Life to go the path of a certain Mr. Nukem.

This isn't going to do anything. If Episode 3 is so delayed because of production problems, then it suffers the problem of all vaporware and it's not going to be made any faster just because of passionate fan demand.

And if there's some other reason why it's not coming out, like, say, Valve correctly assuming that they would make more money by simply continuing to release more Left 4 Dead games which can be enjoyed by millions of gamers who don't even know who Gordon Freeman is, then this effort still isn't going to do anything. Valve knows exactly how strong the demand for Ep3 is or isn't, and they've made it clear that the game (and consequently the community of fans waiting for it) are not a priority to them.

This is why it's a mistake to become too much a fan of any one series or company. They might produce some brilliant stuff when they're bright-eyed idealists new to the industry but once they're settled in and have their obligatory pool of money to swim around in, things change. It's inevitable.
