I haven't played the first one in...hell, IDK how long.

FL2 is better and I guess that's why.
Fun game.
Uhm, there is no Freelancer 2. It got canceled by some imbecile at Microsoft, because the first one didn't sell well enough to justify the Duke-esque development time.

Captcha: Lofberg roffen. WTF?!

Provide a wikipedia or link for this FL2 to make us know you're on about FreeLancer 2.

Hell yes I did! We need so many more space combat games like that... and let's not forget about the awesome controls.

They won't ever make a Freelancer 2.
A huge open world of galactic proportions, so many different factions, different ships, weapons, economy,... for a relatively small fanbase for spacesims.

Compare that with the millions of people who happily buy the same relatively-easier-to-make-FPS all over again but with another number (like Modern warfare, 2, Black ops,...), and guess which one companies will keep pumping out.

Freelancer is still one of the best games ever made, imho.

Both those games look really nice, but if I was going to play a game similar to Freelancer, I want it to be more recently made. Thats just a nitpick of mine, I don't really play older games.
There are the X games, but I think they're much more free-form. Freelancer was always a bit more restrictive.

They're quite recent, the latest expansion was from 2008. Pretty games, and bloody huge. I haven't got much idea of how they play though - I've seen my Dad play them but that was a while ago.

Worth a shot if you're interested.

Have any of you guys played Freelancer before?

I really liked the game, and I really wish a similar game would pop up eventually, one day.
Here's a link to an AMAZING looking mod (STILL IN DEVELOPMENT!) for Freelancer: http://www.moddb.com/mods/fwtow

Seriously, go through the news posts and look at what they're adding in, it looks great!

Note: While the mod is being primarily designed for multiplayer, they WILL release a version that you can host locally to play alone.

I've been playing X3: Terran Conflict a little bit lately (got the whole series on sale on Steam during the holidays) and while it's extremely complex, and hardly helps you along at all, it's pretty interesting.
