Hi. My girlfriend is a manager at GAME (UK video game store), and got me a copy of Kane and Lynch 2 a little early. I played it on Thursday night and unlocked a few achievements, which registered perfectly and show up on my xbox dashboard.

However, on the xbox.com website, the achievements i have unlocked simply fail to show.

Is this something to do with Microsoft wanting to crack down on people getting their hands on games early?

Maybe they register the game online when it appears in stores so that people wont start flaming each other (or their girlfriends)or so that you fro example won't have an early start in comparison to other players for having a few possibilities others don't due to their work place. I don't go around telling people in my town I get stuff for free from the grocery store I work in, not everything but sometimes a little something.

I wouldnt go around saying you got shit early, she can get fined for that. Well in Aus you can.

Nor would I play said shit online ether, thats why its not showing up as it is not supposed to be played yet.

Well... i played the game on Thursday. It had been released in North America a few days before this, and was due out the next day in the UK.

It is also common practice for web based stores to ship games before their street date to those that pre-order.

I was only wondering about the banning thing because i actually get games early alot.
Right now i have mafia 2 and it doesnt come out until tuesday.
A couple stores in my mall are really ...lazy i guess. Like kmart will always put them out early.
Anyway i had assumed playing early would get me banned so i never tried.

Exactly. I haven't done anything illegal or in any way dubious. And even if you consider that i have... many people will have simply received the game early in the post.

If i'm seriously being punished for playing a game a few hours early, i'm going to be rather annoyed.

That's only for pirated games.

Microsofts system can check the DRM on the disc and determine it's a legitimate copy.

Because play.com often breaks street dates and sends you games one day early.

OT: It'll update when the game is out. Xbox.com isn't as well maintained as the dashboard.

The game was released in the UK on Friday. It really should already have updated.

Unfortunately i don't have any friends with the game, so i can't check to see if it's an issue with the game itself or with my having played it a little early.

I swear Micro$oft said that people that do this well have teir gamertag read as Cheater McCheat and have their acheivements stripped. Or matbe not for this. I don't really follow Micro$oft news...

I heard that they were trying to stop people from playing games before their official release date. Though, considering that all i did was play a game a day early, i don't think that they'll brand me a cheat or remove my gamerscore.

Yes. If you want to play an early pirated leaked game, make sure you unplug your xbox network cable.

Little harsh mocking a company for wanting people not to do something which is technically illegal, and could in some ways lead to them losing money...

OT: That's probably the reason. If you unlock another achievement after the 'street date' I reckon they'll show up.

Nope. I unlocked an achievement today and still nothing.

And nothing i have done is illegal or will result in a loss of money for the company. I paid for a legitimate copy of the game... so to suggest that i have done anything other than put money in their pocket is kind of stupid.

Probably not a great idea to advertise the fact that you've played a game before it's release date.

On to more pressing matters: How the fuck did K&L 2 get a 9/10 from OXM and (from the same reviewer I believe) Mafia 2 got a 7/10?!

I wasn't suggesting you personally had done anything illegal, but what do you expect Microsoft to think? Someone's unlocking achievements on a game that hasn't been released yet.
Hmm.
Tried unlocking achievements on a different game?
(I'm not familiar with the system, so I don't know if you can reset achievements just for that one game...or at all?)

Wow, all the Left 4 Dead 2 achievements? Nice going. What? Topic? Oh, right...

Is your gamerscore going up when you get these achievements, or is it just full on ignoring them?
I can't think of any solution. Maybe wait until an update and hope for the best?
