Playing "Older" Games

Greetings,

I have the opportunity to play some of the earlier XBox 360 games at no cost (friend has a ton is giving/loaning some out). And I put the term older in quotes as I am not talking Pong, Space Invaders or ya know GTAII or anything. A few questions.

1. He lent me Mass Effect. I won a copy of Mass Effect 2, is playing the original worth it prior to playing II? I heard some things can be ported over?

2. If you could choose a couple of games from a 5 year XBox360 library, what would you choose? (I am bad at twitchy games, just ask my Modern Warfare 2 friends, but I am willing to try).

I have limited time, but I like playing some of the "older" games still, just seem to always be catching up on things. I mean I didn't know Fallout3 is 2 years old now. Geez.

Thanks.

yes, very worth it. They're pretty much different games in execution but the second game is better after having played the first. Trust me. You can also port over some things like -Your character-. That's pretty useful ;D

I've played very little Xbox 360 games, so I'll leave it up to others.

I would suggest TES IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Gears Of War, and Assassins Creed.

They are all good games to me. You can direct download most of them from x-box live.

You don't need to play the first one if you read up what has happened in the first and if you don't mind not having the bonuses from a ported character. But it does help ALOT since you can also affect the story with the side quests in both of them and seeing the difference later on. If you can stand ME1's gameplay (mostly combat and the mako), you could just skip over since the combat in 2 is way more polished and more enjoyable since it resembles more of a shooter (which is a good thing imo, you shouldn't have to be a shooter to get shooter quality combat if your combat is that of a shooter).

With mass effect I -highly- suggest playing ME first, you can port over your character which means your level for one, and also all your choices made in the previous game make for specific changes in Mass Effect 2. So there is really some incentive to play the first game first.

1. This is what should be by now a stupid question. But the answer is: Yes, it is worth it.

2. Personally? Lost Odyssey. All the rest is playable on a decent PC, so I haven't really been missing out much for not having a 360.

Honestly though, it's not yet on old game if it was released in past few years.
But I can see what you mean, seeing how I just don't spend that much on consoles myself these days. It's not like the releases for really great, must-buy games during this gen have been hectic, but I still have a full enough backlog.

And somehow I find myself replaying Dragon Age now, rather than finally continuing inFamous or Silent Hill 5.

I know it isn't the same, but you may need to play Star Wars battlefront (Xbox), Manhunt(Xbox), and Mercenaries (also Xbox), but otherwise, play Mercenaries 2: World in FLames, Dead Rising, and Oblivion.

Yes play Mass Effect 1. It's fucking far superiour to II in nearly every aspect despite what everyone else and the hype tells you. Also, how the hell did you win a copy of Mass Effect II? If I could have won a copy maybe I wouldn't be bitter about the money I wasted on the collector's edition.

Thanks for the information, I will check out Mass Effect 1 today (if I can). You also gave me some good options. I will need to see which ones he has. I know he has psychonauts, that looks wild.

1. I can't really answer because I haven't played either game, but in my experience, playing the previous game and then moving onto the sequel has pretty much always been the best route. That's why I'm playing Bioshock first instead of just picking up the sequel because I'm probably going to miss out on some serious plot points if I don't.

2. Battlefield Bad Company, Silent Hill Homecoming, Dead or Alive 4, and Psychonauts (since it's backwards compatible for 360).

1. Playing through ME1 makes ME2 that much better. Highly recommended.

2. Can't really answer that one as I'm a PC player >.>
