Playing some old games

So the other day after looking through some old relics that I have in my house, I found a copy of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves for the NES. Personally I think the game is actually fairly decent. It has alot of different aspects to it that make it fairly fun, even though the leveling aspect doesn't really make your character feel any stronger other than the fact that they can get hit more.

Anyone else have any particular old console games that they have recently got back into?

I recently bought the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection on the 360, and it's so good to play those games again. I'm sure nostalgia is only part responsible, they're genuinely great games. I'm still a bit annoyed that Revenge of Shinobi isn't in there though. Gain Ground, Golden Axe and E-Swat are so nice to play again in particular. E-Swat was the very first game I ever completed. Ah, memories.

I could always go back and play my favorite game, Secret of Mana for the SNES whenever I want too, such is how much I adore that game. I'm a little busy now though... but I will go through it again at some stage.

I went back and tried to play Ogre Tactics... couldn't muscle thru past the second map. So many good new games out atm to waste hours away on a game that was great for it's time. Maybe once the summer drought comes I'll give it another try.

Ah, I remember Revenge of Shinobi. Took me years and a walkthrough to get through to the final level. Not because I kept dying, but because I couldn't find the damn exit to that maze!

Retro games ftw, though. An old love of mine is Star Crusader. Multiple endings? This thing had different missiosn depending on whether or not you completed the mission you were on, and this was 13 years ago. You got medals for completing certain criteria, successful missions, number of kills despite overwhelming odds...take that, modern-day Achivements! There was even a point in the middle of the game where you could branch off in another direction entirely! The option to do the classic betrayal was yours, but then you could choose to stay with your squadron, and fight increasingly harder battles as one by one, the best of your pilots die, and you use icnreasingly harsher methods.

I use to play that in the arcade all the time! I still like Gunstar Heroes on the Genesis. That game really had a lot of character to it.

When I bought Zelda Wind Waker on the Gamecube a while ago I played the bonus Zelda games on it, particularly the oldest ones as they had the first and second ever Zelda games to be released, was interesting.

I once scored Crash Bandicoot: Warped at a garage sale for a quarter. It got me playing my old PS1 games for like, two weeks straight. I had forgotten how cute/funny the Crash Bandicoot death sequences were. They made the frequency of those little scenerios a little more bearable. >_>;;

I've been thinking about getting that new Mega Drive Collection for the 360, but I had it on the PS2 and Gamecube and all it did was remind me of just how useless I was at games back in the day. Not that I'm much better now, the only thing I'm half way decent at is Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but still...

I'll probably get it regardless - I could never resist Decap Attack, even if I can't get past the first island. Same with the Sonic games really, none of which I've ever been able to finish. The exception is Columns, I was actually very good at that.
