Oh no! People are talking about something that has been talked about before!! how tragic!

Maybe the person wanted to get some personal recommendations rather than reading over an old topic thread, I mean he could have just as easily just Googled a list of popular PS2 games but apparently he would rather have somebody tell him "hey, you should try this!".

btw, I'm pretty sure posts like "Oh this thread again" are considered spam : \

Also, the most recent of these was posted over a year ago! I fail to see the issue.
If he wanted a personal recommendation he should of told us his taste in games or what he was looking for. I have no problem with that. If you ask for a generic list of best of games you're going to get the same answers as the thousands of people who asked that before. Not to mention the PS2 is an old console so it's not like there are new releases to check out, it's the same list of games that are said in every thread. Chances are he is just too lazy to google and find out for himself.
So wanting to get the personal opinions of the Escapist community and not using a Google search makes me lazy?

You do know that just about every thread ever has been done before right? Am I supposed to do a search every time I make a thread to make sure that it wasn't done a year ago?
The previous threads are the personal opinions of the Escapist, and if you noticed they haven't changed. Also the last thread was a little over a month ago [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.381745-Looking-for-PS2-recs]. I just post a list of the bigger threads so you can look through them for interesting games.
Yeah well the thing is I didn't know that there had been previous threads on this topic. I don't live on the escapist and I don't jot down every thread that is created. Also I don't really appreciate being called lazy. Even now that I've been told that there were previous threads just like this I don't regret my decision to do this because it adds more of a Human element to the whole thing and I can actually respond to people without getting shit for necroing a thread. I really don't see what the big deal is, are you saying that once we have a conversation once we can never have it again? If that's the case we're going to run out of topics pretty damn quick considering that this is a video game forum and there are only so many aspects of video games that you can talk about.
I've never said that, but I think older threads need to rest to make way for new discussion especially when people don't add anything different. If you bring new ideas to an old topic, it's no longer the same discussion. Unfortunately the PS2 recommendations don't have that, and I end up posting the same thing I do every time (I got tired of posting the same games). Feel free to report them too.

Fair enough but like I said I didn't even know that there had been previous threads like this and every time I want to make a thread I'm not going to scour the Escapist to make sure that someone else didn't talk about it two years ago. It's to much hassle on a website I consider to be about conversation and chilling out and frankly calling me lazy felt a bit uncalled for which is kind of why I didn't bother replying to that one and just moved on but did reply when you felt the urge to insult me for a reason I really just don't get. And yes you did indeed insult me considering that you made a fairly negative remark about me in a thread that I made for the purpose for advice so of course I was going to read it and see that you thought that I was lazy. Pardon me but I don't really appreciate being talked about that way when I'm considering buying a new console and want some recommendations for some games. To be frank you didn't have to click on this thread but you did for the sake of saying "oh look it's THIS thread again" which didn't contribute anything to the thread at hand and came across as kind of rude and to argue with people on this thread myself including, bumping it with every post and lengthening its lifespan despite the fact that you think it's tired and generic. So yeah, I don't find your point of view to exactly be sympathetic.
If your offended by some random person on the internet calling you lazy I'd hate to see how sensitive you are in real life. However the escapist is suppose to be a nice place so I'm sorry for that.

I tried ignoring them but it didn't make them go away (amazingly it does work sometimes, if you ignore me I'll go away). So I figured if I kept calling people out on it maybe some will take notice, prolong the thread's lifespan is a small price to pay. Though I'm not that good with the whole sympathizing or caring thing, I'll take your advice and try that next time.
It's less the fact that you called me lazy and more the fact that you did it from a position of superiority when I was just trying to ask for some advice, it was more the sure insensitivity of the whole thing, and the fact that it just made absolutely no freaking sense. Lazy means being adverse to work so I'm trying to figure out how typing "good ps2 games" into a google bar and reading the results takes up more effort than typing out a paragraph on the escapist and checking up on regular intervals to check for updates and replies which I then reply to myself. Frankly, it was just completely uncalled for and I just love how you twisted that sentence into making it another insult in implying that I'm over sensitive as if what you've already thrown at me wasn't enough.

Yes but the thing is I don't want you to go away mainly because I actually want to have a debate with you, that's the thing I replied to you because I wanted to talk to you and not because I wanted your posts to disappear into the either. And calling people out on it? What is that supposed to mean? I'm not going to ask a mod to lock the thread just because one person didn't like it if that's what you're getting on about. Absolutely nothing that you've said has convinced me that making this thread was a bad idea and I really have absolutely no idea what you expect to accomplish (and from the way you worded your post you make it sound like you are indeed trying to accomplish something) by going "oh it's THIS thread again" and calling people lazy other than to come across as a jerk and irritate some people.

I'll throw in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance I & II

If you can find the second one, anyway xD I've only seen 2 physical copies of it, with me owning one.

Well the same way I read too deep into you getting offended by lazy you read too deep into thinking I think I'm superior (pst I don't). These threads are made a lot, I use to go in them for recommendations too and in return I'd ask the OP what kind of games they wanted so I could better recommend them a game I thought they would like. No one would respond. I'm actually glad you care about your thread, since you're the only one I've seen who does. I wouldn't try to convince you your thread was a bad idea because it's a hopeless cause. Just like you were using your were new and haven't seen them before as an excuse I can say I've been there a while so I've seen billions of them (and you'd be surprised at how many new topics the escapist can think of, even if there were no repeat threads it would take a while).

The reason I post that list is for people who don't care about their thread get the list of games they wanted. I hope that maybe someone else that was lurking will remember that we have a ton of these threads with great titles so they don't have to make their own later. Which obviously wasn't working since I posted that list multiple times and there are still more of these. And I'm a jerk. I'll admit it. Rawr.

And wow that was a lot of quoting.

So...what type of games are you into?

I've got something like 400 PS2 games so it might help to know so I can narrow the list.

As you have seen there are one or two good PS2 games. The only ones I can recommend at this point that haven't been listed are Hulk Ultimate Destruction, Gladius, Grandia 3, and King of Fighters XI

I came in here to recommend Persona 4 but I see that I don't need to.

Other Shin Megami Tensie games like Nocturne(they are different from the Persona games)
Devil May Cry 1/3
Dragon Ball Z Bodukia 3
Metal Gear Solid 2/3
Kingdom Hearts 2
Grand Theft Auto series(although they can feel a bit dated now)
Bully
Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition

Timesplitters, all of them.
Jak and Daxter, all of them. (yes even Jak X)
Ratchet and Clank, 1,2 and 3 are must haves but Gladiator wasn't received so well and deviated a bit from the rest of the series.
Star Wars Battlfront, both of them.
There are others but these are great no matter what kind of gamer you are.

TimeSplitters Future Perfect
----------------------------
Comedic story mode with co-op, 4 player split-screen, 150 playable characters, weapons spanning several FPS genres, Challenges, League, and a mapmaker giving you the tools to create your own story and challenges is enough reason to buy this game.

Persona 4
---------
A estimated 90 hour JRPG that manages to fill every second of every minute with quality. Deep characters with realistic personalities that shape and grow throughout, excellent dialog, stylish graphics, and a fast paced challenging combat system that is satisfying to master that requires very little grind. I won't even attempt to explain the story as this is a game that deserves to be taken on completely clueless.

Rule Of Rose/Silent Hill 2 & 4
------------
Rule Of Rose is an incredibly rare horror game that very few people have even heard of. As someone who has played every horror game that has come out on Playstation 2 I recommend this as the greatest horror game on the platform. However keep in mind that this is not your traditional horror game. If you are looking for a more traditional horror game I'd suggest either Silent Hill 2 or 4 as they are tied for second place in my book.

If you can find it you should definitely try Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land. It's an amazingly atmospheric RPG Dungeon Crawler.

I love the hell out of that game, one of the best RPGs made for the PS2, hell, one of the best games period, and I don't say that lightly. It's a shame that game isn't as well known, really.

Basically, you're set loose in a town where an evil disaster has happened, and you're suffering from amnesia (I know, I know, bear with me). You've got an inn, a chapel, a shop and the dungeon with primarily 11 levels of varying visuals and enemies, however, after completing those, you can descend farther down for an unknown amount of levels. The internet isn't sure about how many there are, but it's speculated to either 99, 999 or even 9999 levels. No one has reached the bottom, so yeah..

Gameplay is standard turn based RPG fare with a party of six. However, the main mechanic is based around Trust, which rewards you with having a party who's been together for many battles. Trust awards you with special manouvers and attacks which adds very much to the game.

Ack.. I'm rambling. Just get it. Get eeet.

If you end up liking the persona series you should buy the other Shin Megami Tensei games, they're freaking hard, but a lot of fun.

You could also buy Soul Calibur if you like fighters, Disgaea if you like strategy games, Okami if you like games like Legend of Zelda, the Hitman series, Timesplitters 2 or 3, the Tales series, you have a lot to chose from
