Okay so I just handed a Playstation 2, as is known by the game suggestion thread that left me with enough games to drain my back account as cost me my home if I bough all of them.

However, there is an issue. It doesn't bloody work. Specifically, the controllers don't work.

Basically, it doesn't recognise the controllers. I know the controllers themselves physically work because that light on the front comes on when I press the random 'analog' button, but the console doesn't actually register D-pad or analog stick movements whatsoever.

Thing is, I'm not sure if its the controllers that are fucked (I have one official one and one knock-off-piece of shit one that I don't trust) or if there's something wrong with the controller port of the console.

I tried opening the damn thing up but that didn't do any good cause you can't see fuck all in there because of how its guts are slotted together.

So basically, I don't know if its the console that's up the shitter or the controllers that have just packed it in. And I don't know anyone who still owns a PS2 that I can temporarily swipe a controller from to check since all my friends sold their PS2s in the second the monolithic PS3 stuck its head out into the world.

So I don't know what to do, and I guess I was looking for some kind of advice from people who generally know more about consoles than I do, since all I know how to do is play them and break them.

Rather than just bump this and be a total shameless whore, I shall instead make this post contain more information:

I recently tried to make it work again by playing a DVD on it to see if it works different if there's a disc in there (since if a DVD disc produces a result, a game disc might too, right?) and while the 3rd party knock-off controller I had worked briefly, the official Dualshock 2 controller just endlessly scrolled to the right and there was fuck all I could do to change that.

But then after shutting it down and restarting the console after fucking about a bit, the 3rd party controller no longer worked either, which lead me to believe that the PS2 is, in fact, sentient and just hates me for moving it from its months-long resting stop.

Also noticed that when a controller is in Controller Port 1, it doesn't go in straight. The right side of the bit that plugs in is completely in, but the left side sticks out a bit. Which I think might be responsible somehow.

As for how to go about fixing that, I have no fucking idea.

......Buy a new one? You can get them for about £20 so simply purchasing a new one shouldn't leave you in financial ruin. Maybe your PS2's just old.

They still sell them new, think they run around $100 tho. Repairs will probably cost $40-50 so I'd just buy one.

Send me all your games I can test them on my PS2 for you to make sure they work.
