Since the playstation meeting 2013, ive noticed a lot of people complaining about the face they didnt even show the console. Now dont get me wrong, id have loved to see it as much as the next fan, but at least they confirmed it and gave us a massive breakdown of the project. Personally i was blown away with the entire conference. Say what you want about sony but they know how to put on a show. also im not the biggest fan of microsoft(and i do own an xbox with quite a few games) but im really looking forward to whatever screening they do. even if we have to wait for E3 for it. Who knows, microsoft might blow me away and sell me on the new xbox rather than playstation.

So what are your thoughts Escapist? Id love to get your guys opinion on this

My reaction to all the whining (as I posted it on Kotaku):

- "Oh noes, we don't know what it looks like!" - A black monolith with blue lights a disc slot, and some places to plug shit in. Duh. Get the hell over it.

- "I don't know what media the games will come on" - Blu-ray discs. FFS, do some research before you start bitching.

- "I'll only get one if I can play offline..." - Well, you can. So quite whining.

- "We don't have a release date...." - End of the year. Probably November. Will a couple months in either direction drastically alter the course of your life?
Do you only have a year to live?

- "It's probably going to be soooo expensive..." - No. Probably not. The PS3 was expensive as hell because they made it over complicated. They spent half the PS4 conference talking about how much more simple they made this one. There's every reason to assume it will launch for far less than the PS3. Likely more in the $400 range.

- *whine whine whine* ****** ***** ****** - SHUT UP.

SOOOOO MANY genuinely great and promising things Sony presented last night that indicate they've focused on making the stuff that actually matters most work the best that it possibly can, instead of adding a load of stupid gimmicks and unnecessary BS....and all people can do is ***** about how they want stupid gimmicks and unnecessary BS.

You shouldn't call it a Playstation 4 press conference if you don't actually show the console, reveal the specs, or reveal the price.

Based on the information given I'm not even convinced that they've actually made it or got anywhere near to production. Either way I shall remain as part of the glorious PC master race...

I think that them actually talking about the hardware that's going to be in the thing is infinitely more meaningful than a picture of the box. Because we now know that some of the things that were the biggest problems with the PS3 (severe lack of RAM, processor architecture that's radically different from anything else, etc) won't be an issue. Just because you don't understand any of it, it's still much more important than what color it's going to be.

Also, there was nothing in there that seemed aimed at the "casual" market. The importance of this cannot be understated.

That's not to say the press conference was perfect. They spent far to much time talking about their design philosophies and how awesome the thing is instead of actually giving us useful information. The ratio of tech demos to stuff we'll actually see was way too high. They talked too much about social cloud streaming integration crap that may or may not actually make it to the console (and much of it certainly won't be there at launch). There were too many unanswered questions (price, release windows of any of the games, etc) Also, none of the exclusive games really interested me at all, although this is a purely personal and subjective complaint.

Still, based on this conference, PS4 is the next gen console I'm most likely to pick up first (although definitely not at launch). Microsoft now has to do a lot of things right to compete with Sony in my eyes.
