Well it seems Sony might be considering the Playstation 4. I think even considering a PS4 this early is stupid. True the PS3 has been out for 6 years but it is yet to reach its full potential. There are just so many games scheduled to be released for it plus the motion control tech is on the way. If Sony does release a PS4 in 2012 it will be just as much of a fail as the PS3 was in 2006. What is your opinion?

EDIT: For all of you people making fun of the 6 years. I am well aware when it came out in 2006, what I meant was that by 2012 it will be out for 6 years. I apologize for the bad wording.

Technology has reached an impasse. In it's current state, it's financially impractical to market a console more advanced than what we currently have.

They won't release it in 2012. What this basically is is just a confirmation that Sony will make a Playstation 4 and are looking at what options they have when it comes to hardware. Sony isn't a stupid company, most likely they will milk the PS3 for as long as they can, just as they did with the PS2, to great effect.

I think they will just release ANOTHER Playstation 3 model to serve through the next generation. Like, a fairly improved one, but keeping it so it plays all the current games, and future ones too.

Well, I hope they do.

Didn't you know? Since 2006 one year lasts 1.4 pre-2006 years. Earth suddenly stopped spinning that fast.

The PS3 want most certainly not released in 2003. It was released in late 2006, making in almost exactly 3 years old.

The PS2 was released in 2000, so actually releasing the PS4 in 2012 would be exactly the same differential as between the PS2 and PS3: 6 years.

Sony don't need to make a new console so soon.... Microsoft do. And Microsoft need to make backwards compatibility with the new console.

Because it was overpriced and it never reached its potential. Still better than the Xbox 360 though. I sold mine after 3 weeks of having it.

Not to be a knat but the PS3 has been out just over 3 years and I doubt they are seriously considering a PS4 when the PS3 hasn't even reached it's expected lifespan and they haven't even near mastered the hardware.

We've reached a point where advancement isn't necessary. there's still so much that the current consoles can do that hasn't been exploited. Give it another 3 years at the very least. I'd say 2013 is the earliest logical step towards a new generation.

Not only was it overpriced but it was way too much effort to make games only for the PS3, only good exclusives were LBP, Killzone 2, MGS4, Infamous and a couple others. I have both and I prefer my 360 for multi-platformed games because they usually make it for the 360 first (less effort needed) then convert to PS3. Sony also needs to update the PSN to similar to how live is laid out, if not better and friendlier. PS3's only edge is it's power and no one even uses it to it's full potential.
