Except the PS3 and 360 is where all the bullshit started.
Later in the generation, like on its way out, it opened the door for the bullshit that took front stage in the next gen. I won't for a second fault the entirety of that gen's relevance for what came after it. Arguably, devs and publishers had balls when that gen started; new tech and capabilities showed us a lot of innovation. Since? Stagnant, reboots, remasters, and iterative titles of old and tired franchises at the "low, low" cost of monetization of everything they could justify putting a price on.
Let's face it: the current gen isn't about the experience; it's strictly about what we'll pay for, and anyone who runs out to buy a PS5 Pro just proves the money hungry right that we'll pay for anything, minimum effort required. Have you ever wonder why luxury cars advertise their "0-to-60mph" time as a feature, and ever questioned when a civilian in normal,
legal circumstances would ever require anything beyond what basic economy vehicles can do for half the price? There's your PS5 Pro, 0-to-60mph in 3.5 seconds when the speed limits most places you'll be
starting from zero are around 20-30mph, i.e.: unnecessary but capable, and the latter is what idiots pay for.
