It will be interesting to see how this works out. All of Nintendo's characters fit together as they were for the most part all made by Nintendo. Soney will have its work cut out for them (espicially since they have resorted to using fat princess as a character). Hopefully they get some cool characters but I doubt they will get any Final Fantasy Characters espicially since Square does work for all major platforms and the fact that the first 6 Final fantasys appeared on Nintendo platforms.

well one thing that seems different is that they have super bars instead of the smash orbs in SSBB for using super moves. But I saw no evidence of any kind of health bar, or indication that damage had been dealt.

This game is a massive failure if it doesn't include Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.

And even then, it's probably going to be a failure. If people want to play SSBB, they're going to play SSBB.

I know she's already in Marvel VS Capcom, but I want to see her fight Kratos.

It needs Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. Those characters would make it a game people would want to buy.

Nathan Drake, Solid Snake, Cole MacGrath would get some nice attention as well.

Wander (Shadow of the Colossus, Cloud Strife and Taterazay (Patapon 3) would make it a must buy for me personally.

I love these sort of games, It's a genre that needs more additions to it rather then one that some people seem to think is the domain of one company and one alone.

Well, truth be told, if the game uses more stylized characters, then it could be good.
Jak, Spyro, and Crash would be perfect. They're already using Fat Princess and Papa Da Rapper, so there is a chance they'll be in there. (Maybe?)
I am confused about who this game will be for, though. Some of the characters in the game come from M rated games. The thing about it being a Super Smash Brothers clone is that it might lead the little brats who play it to playing God of War, and won't that be lovely when soccor mom #4,332 walks in and finds her little bundle of joy ripping off a monsters head and decides that "Videogames are the devil!"
And before anyone points to Snake in Smash Brothers, yeah, I know, but at least his game isn't over the top super-violent in the same way Kratos' is.

Anyway, yeah, they're copying Nintendo again. My inner fanboy is raging, but considering that it might be something other than an FPS is an exciting prospect. Smash Bros wanna be or no, this is something I'll at least check out. I'll draw the line when Microsoft does it...because you know it's coming, sooner or later.

At this point I'm not surprised if others "copy" others, though I gotta say: Although Nintendo first came up with the idea of a fighting game with characters from all games, they didn't exactly come up with fighting games.

As long as they come up with a good game that's fun to play, I don't care if they copy all fighting games in the world.

I just don't feel like typing down my choice of characters again...Jak and Daxter and...others...

The whole cross-universe stages sounds interesting, but beyond that I can't see anything else that doesn't immediately make my mind think "Super Smash Bros". Even if the game were to end up being a good Smash Bros. rip-off, I still can't see myself wanting it as the game is probably going to be filled with completely clashing styles.

unless I can play as (at least) one of the Colossi, this game will fall short of its awesomeness potential :p

that being said, what would a game be like where one played a Colossus trying to defend against a stubborn AI Wander? or many? Would that be sort of a tower defense that could work with movement detection? "Stomp and punch the ground before he climbs on you! Shake all over after he does!"

please stop my wandering mind, it's late already

Nintendo seems to have a larger roster of lovable familiars, but this definitely has promise.

I was pretty much hoping it would be a Smash Brothers clone rather than a serious arcade-style fighting game. I'm looking forward to this.
Same here.

Me and my friends love Smash Bros. But only one of us owns a Nintendo. Several own PS3's. All of us have a greater love for Playstation games before Nintendo games. This will work out perfectly for us.

Wow, this isn't a clone, it's an outright ripoff. The music even sounds similar.. REALLY? THE MUSIC!? Come on guys try to hide it more XD In either case I think it looks neat, and I might consider buying it. Thats is, if it has Robbit...

Oh, whats that? It probably doesn't have Robbit? IF IT CAN HAVE PARAPPA THEN IT CAN HAVE ROBBIT GOD DAMNIT

I was laughing my ass off at the reveal trailer. This is pretty much exactly what my friends and I imagined a Sony cross-franchise fighting game would look like; Smash Bros with Sony characters in it.

And really, I don't think anyone really expected anything more. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Hey, if they're going to rip off a 1st-party-cross-franchise-fighting-game, it might as well be the pinnacle of 1st-party-cross-franchise-fighting-games and go from there. I doubt I'd get it, not really a fan of fighting games, but I can no doubt enjoy it ironically from a distance.

Sony's motto must be "If you can't beat'em, join'em blatantly rip them off and hold up both middle fingers with pride because you honestly don't give 2 shits and a fuck if people say you're plagiarizing a competitor."

Pretty long motto, but apparently it's accurate. :p
And that's why I love them, they take no shit from anyone ;P

OT: If it plays as well a SMB it could be good. I'll most likely be buying this, would give it a rent first but unfortunately there is nowhere in my area that rents games/movies anymore.

Smash Bros is fairly distinguished in terms of fighting games, so it comes as no surprise that people are going to take the party-game-fighter approach sometime, but that trailer... Sony is barely even trying to mask the fact that this is Brawl with Sony characters. Nearly identical fonts, similar looking stages, Fat Princess literally just looks like an obese Princess Peach right down to her moveset, and they use the exact same colours for each player IN THE SAME ORDER ARRANGEMENT?! Right down to the little details, this game screams clone. Of course, no one can say anything about the quality of gameplay but Sony definitely was not thinking "original game" when they came up with this.

The confirmed roster thus far includes the aforementioned Kratos, Sweet Tooth, PaRappa, and Fat Princess as well as Sly Cooper (the Thievius Raccoonus) and Colonel Radec from Killzone. One can only imagine that the likes of Nathan Drake and Ratchet (and Clank?) are likely to join the fray as well.
Through footage, they've revealed a few more characters, I think. I don't know them all.

I can imagine that fan backlash would be quite infamous if they didn't include Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. Hey, Sony Published it!
I see what you did there...

Okay, this does look cool, even if it is a knock off of Smash Bros. Then again, everyone knocks off Nintendo so not much surprise (Hello Xbox Avatars, no we haven't forgotten what a blatant rip off of Miis you are).
"Forgotten"? As a matter of fact, the Avatars were in development before the Miis were. They just came later because they're packed with a lot more complications and detail. Plus, it was a side project from RareWare.

"Clashing styles"? So, it's ok for Super Smash Bros., Capcom vs. Whatever, SoulCalibur and Mortal Kombat to do this...
But not PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale?
