I just recently bought a playstation 3 with the backwards compatibility. I also have no games for it and I am wanting to figure out which ones are worth buying. I already have a list of games I intend to get (shown below) and a list of games I refuse to buy (also see below). If you guys have ANY recommendations, please let me know because I want to know what's worth getting from PS1, PS2, and PS3 and what isn't. ... And yes, I know that PS3 has been out for a long ass time and I'm late to the party... shut up.

Games I want: Silent Hill 1-4, Metal Gear Solid 1-4, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, God of War, Persona 1-4, Dokapon Kingdom, Disgea Hour of Darkness, Demon's Souls, and Catherine.

Games I don't want: Any Final Fantasy game, God of War 2 or 3 (until I have finished God of War 1 anyway), and the Jak series.

I'm more or less open to anything else. So I'd love to hear some recommendations. :D

You've got one with full backwards compatibility? Nice, grab yourself a copy of Drakengard to celebrate. Just curious, but what do you have against the Jak series, they're pretty awesome platformers.

How about...

. Medievil 1 and 2
. Spyro games
. Crash Bandicoot
. FutureCop: LAPD
. Theme Hospital
. Rayman
. Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus and Oddysey
. Tomb Raider

I suddenly want to play all of these games again.

PSX: Resident Evil/RE2/RE3. Doom. Quake II.

PS2: TimeSplitters/TS2/TS: Future Perfect. Red Faction. Onimusha: Warlords/Onimusha 2/Onimusha 3.

These were all generally regarded as top-quality games on release and are well worth getting hold of. They should each also keep you entertained for a while too.

You don't want any of the FF games? Too bad. You're missing out.

OT: I'd highly recommend the Sly series, the Oddworld games, and Valkyria Chronicles.

Pretty much my exact first thoughts there too. Including the italics. Seriously, those were awesome games.

I would reccommend the Wipeout series if you like racers, as well as the Oddworld games, Spyro series (ps1 only), Uncharted 1+2 (and soon 3), Bioshock 1+2 and both Portals.

Devil May Cry is also a fantastic series, so get 1, 3 and 4 (there was no 2). Oh and Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2). Excellent rpg series.

I think that about covers it.

If you want to try the persona games you might also want to check out the other SMT games particularly Nocturne. It is not like anything you have on your list but you might want to try out Dark Cloud or Shadow Hearts. Drakengard is fun too. Those are just a few I'd recommend from the PS2 era.

If you haven't played the Jak games I recommend the shit outta them. But if you have, and thats why they're on the don't want list then fair enough.

Otherwise, I recommend all of the following:
Infamous (First or Second, never played number 2 but I assume its better)
Uncharted (Same as with infamous)
Any of the Racthet and Clank games, PS2 or PS3
Killzone 2 (or 3, never played it but it could be better but I really doubt it)

Non-PS exclusives: (You never mentioned whether you wanted non exclusives or whether you had an xbox or whatever)
Splinter Cell or any of its sequels
Black
Fallout 3
Oblivion (or wait til Skyrim)
GTA: San Fucking Andreas!!!!!
GTA IV

And I also recommend all the games you said you did want. The ones I did play were excellent and the ones I didn't, I had heard were excellent. Except for Persona 1-4, Dokapon Kingdom and Disgea Hour of Darkness, I never heard much about those. And Okami, I would not reccomned Okami.

Kingdom Hearts series.
Soul Reaver/Blood Omen series.
Alundra (lesser known but awesome).
.hack//infection and its sequels.
Zone of the Enders.
Deus Ex 1.
Kula World (A lesser known but awesome platforming game)

To give you an idea of what you would be in for. The game is even on the PSN. Over 150 levels I think.

I'd recommend checking out Resident Evil 4 HD that just came out. I think it is 20 dollars. A good graphical update to an already awesome game.

You should keep in mind that only some PS1/2 games work on the 'old' PS3 with backwards compatibility and they stopped the development of the emulation engine as they removed the chip from the newer models.

So if you wanna play some older games you should get the PS3 HD remakes, if available (e.g. the recently released 'ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Pack').

I'm impressed by the number and disbelief of the Jak recommendations. I'll nth that suggestion though, those games are great.

Also, the early Timesplitters games are fantastic, but Future Perfect is by far the most coherent and funny.

Okay I was about to recommend most of these games... one thing caught my eye though.

theme hostpital was on the playstation? That's pretty cool acctually... but I doubt it would have been as good as the PC version. (I was compelled to say that... sorry)
