I think it's more a case on preying upon post Cold War semantics/politics/fears. It's surprising how much the Cold War still affects international politics, and the political psyche of the NATO alliance. Really quite fascinating.

I'm not even sure if the Russian Federation could effectively mount the large scale operation shown in the MW series, if at all. Really, the only nation with the capability for global power-projection is the US.

Except when you see the numbers compared. Don't get me wrong, if someone really wants to screw up america then invading the 48 contiguous states is the best option, but North Korea's huge army is almost entirely infantry. What are they going to, swim the pacific ocean?

Also, check this page out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_troops . If you check out the people's rep. of N. Korea, you'll notice they do indeed appear to have the largest military in the world. However, there's a 418 number in the, "per 1000 capita" column. NK is claim 40 % of their population as their military. Knowing that the world's split between male and female is 40 - 60, this just means NK is claiming their entire male population as their military. Clearly, someone is bullshitting.

Not to rain on your parade, but an NK invasion of the USA is damned unlikely.

Also, someone mentioned a game with the US as the antagonist and I must say that as an American I would buy that game.

Well Firsty I (among others) did mention that US as an antagonist would be a good idea in an earlier post. Also seeing as in NK the people are belong to the state and they have conscription it isn't unlikely that they have the majority of their population in military at least as listed reserves. Though wouldn't suprise me if they fudged a few figures. Also if you watch Red Dawn (which was written by the same guy who did the plot for homefront) the russians used comercial aircraft to invade. Anyhow wouldn't make to much sense for NK to invade USA as their main aim to gain control of the south

Because Russia a super power, that's why that, and China and Korea or "Terrorists" are the bad guys. Most of the developers are American, so USA must be the good guys, and America has always had ties to Western Europe, so it's unlikely they would be the bad guys either, leaving only the obvious.

And to be fair Russia isn't technically the bad guys in MW, they are being manipulated by what Makarov did at Moscow International

I think most of us, from what I've seen, would like to see a game with the US as an antagonist. Someone needs to get on this and make that game!

I do think they list their population as reserves considering the numbers. This doesn't mean I don't think that, if the US tried to invade (again) that most of them wouldn't fight, merely that I find it hard to believe that many of them are in fighting condition. Consider the fact that, given their set up, most of the food goes to feed the military alone. NK literally relies international support, which is why they throw a fit every time we put stronger sanctions on them. They don't want to starve.
I like the idea of using commercial aircraft though. It makes an interesting point. If they're already in our airspace and can't be visually or logically identified from civilians, we can't shoot. It would be a PR fiasco. Of course, then we get invaded and we're screwed anyway...
But I digress.

I do think Homefront would've been better had the game devs not had to care about angering the Chinese. It wouldn't have fixed the campaign, but it would at least would have been more believable.
