So a friend of mine bought a new Ipad last year and gave me her old one an Ipad mini and I've been trying to find some games to play on the go (Train, Bus, Subway, etc.) and I've had a handful major problems:

1. A ridiculous amount of availible games, I don't have time to downlaod and test all the hgames that look cool

2. The majority of these games are garbage or could barely even be called games, I'd call them timer simulators (ie. Clash of Clans or Tiny Tower, the latter I though might be like Sim Tower)

3. Alot of the better ones like Hearthstone and Loot&Legends require an internet connection...Hearthstone makes sense for multiplayer but i don't get why you cant play offline against the AI, Loot and Legends is a single player card/tactics game which has no right requiring a net connection. The worst part is most games don't specify this which is no biggie for F2P games but its making me really gunshy about buying anymore games

4. The ipad mini struggles to run alot of the games.

5. Despite the fact thats it's a mobile platform alot of the games require your full attention like action RPGs or Tower Defense, it might just be me but I have to do alot of transferring during my commutes/weekend trips which means stuff like action rpgs are a no go and turn based stuff is golden.

6. Anything that uses "motion controls" do not react well to well constantly moving.

Anyways here's the list of games i've tried on my ipad categorized quickly&roughly (note: some have crashing issues due to the mini's weak hardware, most of the "awesome" require a net connection)

Awesome: Hearthstone, Loot&Legends, , Final Fantasy Dimensions, Final Fantasy Record Keeper, Choice of the Dragon, Crimson: Steam Pirates, Tinkerbox, Plague Inc.

Good but clunky/attention requiring: Minecraft,Kotor 1/2, Legend of Grimrock, Terraria, Action RPGs, Tower Defense, Don't Starve, Baldur's Gate Enhanced 1&2

Meh: Beast Bound, Hero Academy, RAD Soldiers, Flockwork, Papers Please, Angry Birds,

Loathe: Bad Nerd, Clash of Clans (and its clones), Fallout Shelter, Anything "Arcade-like", Tetris (and it's clones like Candy Crush), FNAF,

Lastly assuming my Ipad Mini can handle these games here's a list of game I'm thinking of buying but haven't due to previously mentioned hardware issues and fear of net connection requirements. (and partially holding off cause some of these games i already own on steam but are more suited to a portable platform)

Planning to buy: Banner Saga, Any Telltale game, FTL, World of Goo, Revolution 60, maybe some ports/remakes like FF or Dragon Quest.

So yeah hopefully that gives you a good enough idea of what I'm looking for so I can get some suggestions of some games to download (free or pay doesn't matter).

If you've ever played Paper Mario, or any Mario RPG for that matter, you'd enjoy Steven Universe: Attack The Light!

Three bucks, about a day of stuff if you play constantly and turbo through it but fun if you take your time as well. Most enjoyable if you've watched the show however.

I may love these games too much, but look up Avernum: Escape from the Pit and Avernum 2: Crystal Souls. Good games available for the iPad, tactical turn-based combat style RPG, with a very good and expansive world, and lots of content within. You can also take a peek at Avadon and Avadon 2 by the same dev, though I can't say much about them.

I'd recommend Decromancer.

Despite what its name might make you think, it isn't a CCG. No booster packs or randomly drawn hand of cards here.

It's a strategy game where your units are represented by cards (they look more like tiles though) that you place them on your half of a 4x5 battlefield. To win, you have to kill all the enemy units or damage their side of the board to demoralize them. And, best of all, the premium currency is easily acquired through side quests so no forced payments.

It hadn't been working on android for a while but the developers got back together recently to fix it and do some rebalancing. You shouldn't have any problems since you're playing on an iphone.

Order and Chaos online is a World of Warcraft clone if you are interested in that. Though it is like 5.00.

Ok quick summary for my own convenience

- Galaxy on Fire 1/2
- Steven Universe: Attack the Light
- Avernum 1/2
- Avadon 1/2
- Decromancer
- Order and chaos Online

Steven universe I can't really get into the show but ill try out the game nonetheless but O&C Online I'm guessing requires a net connection because it says "online" in the title. The rest all seem interesting, keep em coming guys :D

My favorite so far has been Ghost Trick.

A puzzle game with a plot and a stylish aesthetic. You go through a bunch of scenarios preventing the deaths of important characters, by possessing objects and manipulating them. There's a lot of dialogue between levels, but I like the style of it all.

Rebuild 3 ate up a lot of my time.
Fun zombie survival game set at a group management level of control.
Set tasks, expand compound, meet other survivors, don't become zed chow.

Try playing the Ace Attorney Games, its a visual novel, but you have to investigate crime scenes and make arguments in court. The Ace Attorney Trilogy is free to download, you can play the first two cases and see if you like the game, if you do you can buy the rest with a one time IAP. Other recommendations if you like Crime Solving games: Ghost Trick, Mystery Room.

As for simple action games I recommend: Perfect Cell, Zombie Gunship, Robbery Bob (the first one, the second one is pay to win mess).

I recommend Swordigo and Star Realms:

Swordigo is a 2D platformer with some RPG elements. It's very addicting and interesting. While the story is average it does what it needs to.

Star Realms is a deck building game, it's free without ads (at least on the Android version, can't speak for the iPad) with deck upgrades and extra missions that can be bought. However even without paying it is very good and can get very competitive but not overly complicated.

XCom is quite good on an iPad. Door kickers is great as well, but not turn based.

The Hitman and Tomb Raider GO games could be good for you as well.

Slightly off topic, but i'd kill for Chrono Trigger to get an iPad release.
