What happens if you delete system 32? I know it screws you over big time, but how exactly?

Its an extremely neccessary file to use a computer. Deleting it would be the quivalent of something like taking an engine out of a car. Leaving it an empty, useless shell.

thankfully i found out, i wasn't going to delete it before i researched it, but it still pisses me off that someone would say to delete something like that and pass it off as a joke

ive learned somthing on this site, wait for a few minutes and see if someone gets probated or baned over a text and then turn away from it.

It is in your case, but to someone who is upset and panicking, maybe not. People who are desperate for help often take the first advice given in those situations.

I'm pretty sure the guy had enough intelligence to not delete a file with System in it. Files like that tend to be, you know, important. Same goes for program files and windows.

The other used just wrote "delete system32", nothing more or less. How can his tone be "sarcastic"? Sarcasm is something which is very hard to detect in a text form unless it's absolutely spelled out. We've all had situations where a friend has misinterpreted or not detected sarcasm in an SMS or on a forum - it happens all the time.

Yeah, it's not sarcasm. Still, the guy should be smart enough to not delete the file and just plain use Google. But hey, he actually DID use Google, did he not?

You shouldn't respond to a request to a plea for serious advice with a joke anyway. That's a pretty mean-spirited thing to do. If it WAS a joke, why did you then give him a second reply with detailed instructions on where to find the files? Obviously part of you WANTED him to delete his computer. Which isn't funny.

I gave him a tutorial on how to delete Program Files and the Windows folder.

If he was stupid enough to do that then he deserves to spend 3 hours waiting for Windows to get reinstalled. Using Google isn't that hard to realize if the "advice" you were given is just plain bullshit. Did he use Google? Yes he did. Is he a moron? No, he's not.

Also, the person you're giving advice to may be really young and naive. Is that their fault? Maybe but it doesn't make what you did justified.

If he was young and naive he could have just simply asked his parents. I'm pretty sure they would've easily called customer support and get the problem solved.

And as naive has I was I knew that when a problem arises that I have no idea how to solve I would ask people who can help me. Like my parents or close friends who were savy with computers.

He probably didn't delete his system32 folder but he just might have.

If he didn't delete the file then good for him, he's not as naive has you might think. If he did delete it then he's way to naive to even be on the internet in the first place.

But I wonder, how did he get this virus in the first place? The only possible way was if he either clicked popups at random like an idiot or pirated something. Certain illegal downloads contain a link to a site where you have to fill in info and such to install a media player. If he actually installed that player then there you have it, another way for him to get that virus.

You clicked a popup saying that your computer is infected by something when it didn't even originate from your antivirus.

Either that or you pirated something that contained a keylogger.

installed anti virus, norton ( i know that everyone hates it)

got rid of all my problems

and even gave me some new ones
