So i recently purchased a new hard drive for my laptop. i discovered shortly after that it did not have an operating system on it. So i pirated a windows 7 disc (i believe this is ok because my old hard drive already had 7 on it) and then when i recovered from the back up i made of the old hard drive. none of my programs were on there (i.e. steam, firefox, itunes) is there any way for me to get my programs to back up onto it? sorry for the lack of grammar but i am really stressed and typing fast so i can get replies faster.

Well you could just re-download them, thats one way.

When switching out hard drives in my PC I use a portable external drive to transfer the files.

Most of those programs will be quite easy to replace.
Steam and iTunes for example can just be downloaded to your new hdd and then you can recover your music and games by logging back in and downloading.

Beyond that I, personally can't help you.

I made a "system back up" onto a portable drive. but it only replaced files. it isn't getting the programs back that bothers me, its losing all the preferences, most of my itunes songs were flac files so i had to input all the song info manually.
