Hello, i just need to ask a quick question; Can i run oblivion?

Ok, heres how it goes, i have just come from "can you run it", which has told me a very definate NO. However, when i had a look at what it was actually checking against, i was surprised to find next to ALL of it had passed with flying colours. The only issues were my laptops graphics card (intel(r) HD graphics) and that passes in all the attributes (Video RAM, hardware, 3D, Shaders, all passed).

The second issue is the running system (Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (build 7600), 64-bit) which is only an orange.

So im a bit confused, because despite nearly everything being passed, it still says i wont even run at minimum requirements.

So, i need help, because i am not very computer-literate, and i dont want to pay money for something i cant use, so please help! thanks in advance!

Also, just a side note, i tried it with crysis and guess what? Yep, same results. Everything passed except the graphics card, and AGAIN the attributes of the card passed. the only difference to the oblivion results is that crysis does run on the windows 7 i have.

I'm pretty sure that you can have all the RAM in the universe, but if your graphics card isn't up to snuff then you can't play the game. I may be wrong though, it's been know to happen.

Do you know what video card you have?

If you don't, click on the Start button, right-click on My Computer and go to Properties.

Graphics cards are like Processors in that they do the brunt work of calculating what needs to be done in order to run the game. However, they dedicate themselves to the task of video game graphics, while all the other meat like spatial interaction, triggers, entities, enemy AI and other calculations like that are handled by the processor.

yeah, but all the atributes for the card have passed (some values even double what they need to be)

but maybe your right, i have no clue about this sort of thing :s

Bloop, should be in the advice forum: an Off-Topic discussion, this is not.

Hmm... Oblivion...
I'm pretty sure you'll be able to at least run it; it's a pretty old game now.

But yeah, you could check for yourself by going to computer properties, and bringing up a list of the minimum requirements for the game, check if they match up:].

...Can I just say though, Oblivion is an acquired taste- I love the Fallout games and whatnot, but I hate Oblivion. So do your research on the game before you buy it- just warning yoouuu:D.

To be honest, you probably know more about computers than me. I understand what I need to run a game, but I don't know why =D

It depends on the integrated Intel card you have.
Technically with the older X3100 card you could play Oblivion on low with oldblivion.
If you have the newer X4500 or X4700 cards which are according to one PC gaming website on parr with an Nvidia 8400 then you should be able to get decent fps on low to medium settings.

However a few other mods could help
Low Poly Grass
Any that reduce mesh complexity and so on like Operation Optimisation

Check the UESP.

i was thinking advice, but i decided here in the end. Ah well, i know now.

And dont worry, ive played oblivion before. Quite a lot of hours logged on the xbox version, but i just wanted to try the PC. My mates who have it for PC says its better than the console version. But thanks anyway :D

... you may as well have just said that in hebrew. I havn't got the foggiest what you just said.

Seriously, by "im not very computer-literate" i mean im truly and utterly hopelessly lost with anything beyond the internet. I know how to use paint, word etc and the internet. Beyond that, not a sausage :D

but cheers anyway... i think, unless you worked a clever insult into that

EXACTLY what I thought when I read that hahaha xD ahman.
Aaah okay bro, wish you the best of luck. At the end of the day, the game's pretty cheap now, right? So if you got the money around, I say go for it:].

Also, apparantly the only reason the PC version is so much better is because people tend to mod the hell out of it xD.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help though gaaah.

X3100, X4500 and X4700 are the names of the intel graphics chips inside their laptops.
All 3 are technically capable of playing Oblivion.
However the X4700 should be able to play it comfortably.
If you're laptop is within 1-2 years of age there is a good chance it has the X4500 which will play Oblivion so long as your processor and ram suffice.

A list of your system specs would be nice to know more

I will warn you now, you will need serious power to run this at a high level. It's beautiul when you can though. The vistas are breathtaking.
