Does anyone have a DS game they really enjoyed? Preferably an RPG, but if something from a different genre impressed you feel free to suggest it. Any recommendation will be much appreciated.

I only have a few games for my DS, but my favourite is Pokemon White. Might not be exactly what you're after when you say RPG, but I enjoyed it a hell of a lot.

It definitely isn't an RPG, but Room 215: Hotel Dusk surprised me. Good story, good characters and interesting gameplay. I recommend having a look at some gameplay first though, as it might not be to everyone's tastes.

Already have Pokemon Black.

Hotel dusk seems quite interesting, but a quick wiki search says that it involves using the micrphone to solve cases. Does that mean it involves screaming at the DS? I mostly play on public transport so that could get awkward.

I can wholly recommend Time Hollow. That's if you can find it of course. Then there's also SMT: Devil Survivor, Radiant Historia, Phoenix Wright, and Final Fantasy Tactics A2.

For rpg I can only suggest Infinite Space and Phantasy Star Zero. Infinite Space was done by Platinum so you know it's good (they did Vanquish and Bayonetta etc) and Phantasy Star Zero is similar to Phantasy Star Online which I love that game so much.

Mario and Luigi games are always good RPGs, I can vouch for "partners in time" being good, but I've yet to get any of the later ones.
Also if it's a 3DS, and you haven't already played ocarina of time, I'd go for that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not really interested in Pokemon, Zelda or Mario games because, though not necessarily on the DS, I have played more than one title from each of those franchises on various platforms already.

I also have Phoenix Wright and FF Tactics.

The rest I am looking into right now. Cheers!

FF IV rocks
Get FFIV. They fixed so much of the Engrish from the original it is not even funny. It was like playing through a new story.

Plus, they added...the best thing ever...

Cecil ***** slaps Edward, not even joking, he grabs him and just slaps him across the face complete with sound effect

A game I enjoyed very much on the DS is The World Ends With You, a JRPG with a pretty unique combat system. And a godly soundtrack.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days was alright, but aside from FFIV, I can't really say anything about the DS since I own 5 games for it and part of it broke a while ago, leaving me with no reason to get more of the games.:/

Are more old-school dungeoncrawler type RPGs okay? If so, The Dark Spire and the Etrian Odyssey series are really damn good. The Dark Spire is kind of a spiritual successor to Wizardry, and the Etrian Odyssey games have a bit more of a JRPG feel to them. SMT: Strange Journey is good too, but I didn't like it as much as the others I mentioned.

Also, Ghost Trick is one of the best DS games out there, if you'd like a point and click type (kind of) adventure game with great story and characters.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2!
The second is better then the first, really fun game but the game gets stupid after the story is finished.
It is really hard to get all 300 quests done.

Dragon Quest IX is a surprisingly good RPG which I bought on a whim if you haven't played that, you can tell the developers really put effort into it rather than just phoning it in and there's lots to be done.

Chrono Trigger.

If you haven't played it before, this is your perfect chance

This! This should be #1 on any DS owners list. The soundtrack is astounding, the combat actually uses the touch screen, the story is a bit meh since you'll solve a lot of thing before the guy does but all around it's stupendous.

As said before, Professor Layton is great, Kingdom Hearts as well, Ghost Trick gets a lot of praise but I've never messed with it. Same with Radiant Historia. Golden Sun is fun as hell too though and I've actually played that one and the sequel (GBA.)

I have almost unholy love for the Ace Attorney games and you have those, so if you liked them then I'll second the recommendation for Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Same people behind it and the story's good.

Not really played any RPG games on the DS unfortunately.

Bowser's Inside Story. It's an RPG, but the ability to dodge and counter enemy attacks means that SKILL plays a higher role in combat than other turn-based RPGs.
