Please recommend me a good Hospital drama?

On recommendation I've marathonned through Season 1 to 8 of Scrubs (and there's no way in Hell I'm going to watch Season 9 after that glorious ending) and I would like to move onto a series that leans more towards drama. But there's so many out there and I only have the time right now to get invested in one. If I could get your help that would be great!

Here's the stuff that would be ideal:

. I'd love the Hospital drama to be medically accurate and authenticity would be nice too. Something that captures what must actually go on in the life of a doctor, not the medical mystery House style type deal

. I don't mind at all whether it's a short drama series or a long soap series

. I love humour and won't be put off by a sense of humour at all, but a more grounded tone than Scrubs had would be lovely

Any suggestions? Even if they only meet two out of three criteria I'd love your recommendation! And if you happen to know where to find the start of the series even better, but there's no sweat for that, I'm resourceful ;D

Well, there goes my only suggestion. :/
Just checking, have you watched at least a bit of House and decided you don't like it, or are you just assuming you won't?

Grey's Anatomy.

Especially in the later seasons it starts to skew more and more towards being a pretty cheesy soap series, but I definitely feel that it ticks those three requirements pretty solidly. Whether or not you'll enjoy it depends entirely on the characters, I suppose, but I feel like it juggles drama, comedy, and 'realism' fairly well and continuity remains relatively consistent for the characters throughout each new season.

Season 9 of Scrubs was just a collective fever dream that every fan in the world had at the same time.

I've gotta admit, I've just heard that whilst the protagonist is a miserable cynical misanthrope, it over glamourises being a doctor, and the doctors look like supermodels, and there's interesting medical mysteries happening every week woohoo!

I'll watch it if people recommend it, I have an open mind on this thread :3

The only medical drama I've ever watched was House and I really really enjoyed the first few seasons. The first few seasons are primarily a medical mystery show with a little bit of House character progression and drama. The latter seasons are more primarily House drama and less medical mystery, which I wasn't a huge fan of, I just wanted to see House solve hard puzzles, but apparently the writers got tired of that or something.

You would probably like the latter episodes more than the first few. Also, I remember reading an article about Grey's Anatomy v. House on the medical realism spectrum. The article said House was more realistic medically while Grey's Anatomy was a bit more fake in that aspect.

Thanks man! People seem to think House is a good alternative, the only bad things I've heard about it are from one friend anyway, and he tends to be a bit of a contrarian with popular media.

Alright. Unless anyone has any good evidence otherwise, House it is! Thanks guys :D

I personally enjoyed Kingdom hospital if you fancy something a bit weird. I think Stephen King developed it, and it was based on a Danish mini series called Riget. I personally enjoyed it, but it is not to everyone's taste.

Just throwing something out there, but have checked out Monster?

It's like the Fugitive, set in and after Berlin wall era Europe.

St. Elsewhere, although it may be a little hard to find, it's still well worth your time.

Monster is a pretty good show also, as long as anime won't turn you away. I haven't watched a whole bunch of it however, only ~7 or so episodes

House is the distilled drama-nectar of Ambrosia.
I love the show, and I would strongly advice you trying at least the first season. If you don't like the humor by then, then don't watch it.

Also, ER, THE classic drama-hospital show from the 90's. Try it out.

Week to week house varies from average to solid, but certain episodes of it are fucking brilliant and rank among the best television I've ever seen. Not sure how medically accurate it actually is but for the most part it was legitimate sounding enough to fool me. If you actually have some sort of background in medicine I'm not sure how well it will hold up. I'd definitely recommend it though.

I'd recommend it, heavily. First off, the miserable cynical misanthrope is the brilliant dry British humour of Hugh Laurie, who fits the role like a glove (which is odd to me to be honest, because while I think the man's a comedic genius, outside House, he was only in some pretty crappy drama films).

Doctors look like models because they're the main cast, their sort tends to be good looking in most shows. Same with "new mystery every week", you can apply that to most shows that aren't mundane.

Bottom line is that it's good and very much worth watching, assuming it's your kind of show. Give it a look and make sure to give it a chance, watch a couple of episodes before deciding it's not for you (the first few episodes are a bit different in some ways, particularly the first). Some episodes are better, some worse and there are a number of masterpiece episodes within the show, especially the two-parters later on.

I'd love to suggest an alternative, but I find most medical shows, particularly drama ones, to be quite shit.

But... What? I don't even...

Do you not know who the 'Laurie' from Fry and Laurie [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fry_and_Laurie] was?

I can think of two I recall seeing on TNT.

Monday Mornings and Hawthorne.

Both were canceled so they won't be long seasons. I believe Hawthorne was more soap opera like than the other. Monday Mornings was supposed to be more medically oriented. A summary I'm reading from an article says it centers on the doctors having meetings and defending whatever they did on duty to the Chief of Staff.

So that might intrigue you.

Can't believe no-one's recommended Green Wing.

Absolutely brilliant British drama/comedy with an excellent love story and literal cliff hangers. Only 2 seasons too.

I'm going to add my weight to the people saying House. I'd recommend watching up to the end of season 7, the final season (like Scrubs) was pretty poor. I like to think season 7's ending was the actual legit ending.
