My nephew is 4 years old and can't really handle complex games, but surely likes them. He's happy enough to assist me at Mario Galaxy, but I'd wish he could try himself without dying all the time.

I've tried NES classics, but they inevitably had a timer or enemies. Flash games but we don't have joypads for the pc. So far roaming around parts of Lego SW, Braid and NyxQuest have been the most toddler-accessible ones I've been able to gather with platforms and no deaths.

Can you suggest any other titles?

*thinks* I believe Kirbys Epic Yarn would fit the description.
...Yup pretty much. I can't really think of too many apart from that.

See, the thing with platformers is the goal is to successfully navigate the platforms. "Platforms" are raised surfaces, so the only logical result that can come from missing one is falling to the ground. Which inevitably ends in injury or death.

So finding a platformer that breaks that formula will be very difficult, simply because it goes against the main idea of what a platformer is.

In Warioland 2 and 3, the player is immortal. Enemies can't kill you, but they can inflict temporary status ailments or knock you off platforms, and other things. This actually works really well and is something more games should do.

Kirby's Epic Yarn as mentioned by 2 other people already is ideal for a kid that age.You are just plopped back down pretty much where you "died" and all that happens is you lose some of the gems you collected.Plus the entire game can be played co-op(proper 2 people on screen co-op too not like Galaxys rather piss poor excuse for co-op)

I remember back in the day , we persevered through games no matter how difficult it was ,no matter how many times we got that dreaded game over screen we would come back harder and better. Watching cousins ,uncles and father , play super mario 3 and wanting to be on par with the
. Picking up the controler , dying on world 1 , get mad , maybe even cry , but kept on going ,pushing harder and getting farther each time and the satisfaction of finally beating the 1st castle . I was 3 when i first beat suPer mario 3 by myself , thus begamr my life as a gamer . Kids these days give up way too fast.

OT : kirby epic yarn , you cannot die , a 4 year old should be able to play it , its colorful and happy go lucky , plus has some interesting game play and some parts where you need timing . I good place to start for a young gamer in training . Didn't have this luxury when i was a child , take advantage of it :) . It might get harder near the end , but since you cant really die , when at first you don't suceed try again.

Then Kirby Epic Yarn it is! I'll see if I can find a 2x1 deal at gamestop with Paper Mario, my nephew loves the cutouts.
