Please suggest short and simple but enjoyable titles

That sucks that you have to do forced military service, sorry dude.

As for recommendations, I'd say try Journey if you haven't already. It's very short and very simple and very enjoyable. Also if you're into older games, the Spyro games on PS1 are all reasonably short, easy to pick up, and good fun.

Bastion, Gunpoint, To The Moon (although I would prefer to call it an interactive story because the game aspects are basically nonexistent), Cave Story, Audiosurf, The Binding of Isaac, Bleed, FTL: Faster Than Light, Time Fcuk, Hotline Miami, Trine, Realm of the Mad Gods, Pineapple Smash Crew, Monaco, and Jamestown off the top of my head.

To the Moon. Warning, there is very little game to this game, if The Walking Dead or Heavy Rain isn't your thing, avoid this like the plague. Its more like a short novel with an RPG art style, you'll finish it in about 3-4 hours, and will never want to play it again, but it's well worth picking up if its ever on sale.

Renegade Ops. It's a very fun twin-stick shooter.

About time I saw someone else giving Renegade Ops some love, friken awesome game.

It is. And since he's in the military now, he should be looking at co-op games. Especially if he plays on a console. And Renegade Ops has a 4 player co-op.
