Pointless Learning

I get annoyed at a lot of classes, but I'm definitely wouldn't call any of them completely pointless. The closest at high school to pointless was English class,

And whoever said english... that's a RETARDED thing to say. Unless you'll never speak it, you can freaki'n use it for the rest of your life unless you're just going to ask improperly, "ya' want fries with that? durrr"

I don't know if English class is different where you are, but for me the last two years of English class was spent analysing the hidden messages in advertisements, or deconstructing magazine articles. The worst part is, I'm a huge fan of etymology (study of words) and love learning about the roots of words... so English class should have been one of my favourites.

Also the books that you were forced to read in class were truly awful. I look around at my friends and there's a surprising number who don't know which there/their/they're to use, and some who never read anything and it makes me look back at that time that really could have been better spent in "English" class.

Still, I couldn't say that the class was completely pointless, just that it had lots of room for improvement.

PS. Logs, polynomials are certainly more advanced than many people will need, but they are very useful in almost any maths or science based study and so should definitely be compulsory for a Maths A or B class. Simultaneous equations and geometry are just plain useful, right up there with basic algebra for their practical applications, and no-one should make it through 12 years of schooling without covering them.

I'm in University so most of my courses are useful in some way or another... Even mandatory English is important, as it helps me understand texts better and exposes me to different literature.

That said, GOING to class is useless. Especially Computing Sciences, where I CANT UNDERSTAND MY PROFESSOR! My most important class and I can't understand him. Gah

I must admit, even though I felt that everything was useless when I was in school, it really isn't. Knowing anything at all is worth it, simply for the sake of more knowledge. Even if it's nothing to do with your job or later life, being a well-rounded person is a good thing.

I think that most of the higher math classes are useless depending on your career choice. Also, something like AP(college) History and Physics.

Well my P.E teacher was trying to teach us about Cyber Safety last year. It was so fucking boring, it was just the usual shit that teachers would teach when you first start school, such as don't click websites that look dangerous, don't talk to strangers in chat rooms etc.

It was very boring.

I have nothing against the subject but it is the most useless subject to be made COMPULSARY. It should be an option for everyone.

The most useless for me was ANW which stands for algemene natuur wetenschappen. Basicly means General nature sciences.
This class was a mix of biology, chemistry, physics and some random stuff. while I had all those classes anyway (besides the random stuff)
So I basicly had to do a class in which anything I ever had to study was already covered in way more detail in my other classes. Luckily it was only for 1 year.

Classes just started for my 2nd semester of my jr year and I have to take all these usless classes. Just curious for those of you who are in school or who have been in school in the past: what are some of the most usless or most pointless classes that you have taken and what are some of the most usless things that you learned. The two do not have to be related.

The only thing you get out of studies is what you choose to take from it. If you choose to learn nothing, you will learn nothing. If you choose to find knowledge, you will find it in everything. The moment you stop learning, you have stopped living and have no one but yourself to blame.

I've noticed that people forced to as children don't tend to be religious as they get older. I feel for you man.

Wow, you stole my answer AGAIN, Furburt... I really wish we hadn't agreed to that experiment; I didn't think that scientist actually meant it when he said we'd share a brain.

Except that I didn't bother finishing my high school; if I wanted equivalency, I could take the 2 exams I need for it, but I finished a journeyman's ticket (tradesmans' or vocational college), and that gives me the right to claim 'post-secondary graduate' when asked for my educational level.

My many English classes in high school are about the most useless things I've had to take. English is a good subject in theory, to teach you to write and read analytically. That said, it fails in execution: the crap we had to read was pitiful.

Oh, and around here, you probably cumulatively spend about a year and a half on poetry, more time than is spent on anything. I'm an engineering major now, planned to be all along. What a worthless waste of hours.
