Points where it feels like the game itself is cheating?

We all know there are points in games where it is difficult, some people need to feel like they've accomplished something great and the only way to do that is to maintain a high curve of difficulty. However I think we can all agree that there are points where it feels like the game is just a little bit too difficult and sometimes, just sometimes where it feels like it's deliberatley being as hard as possible and maybe even bending a few rules to allow it to always beat you. Or at least make you scream in annoyance at the TV screen while some heartless developer miles away laughs at your suffering.
My personal choice is the On Rails meteor shooting section in Dead Space. Most on rail shooting sections in action games are needlessly hard at the best of times but this one just took it one step further with the fact that when you hit one asteroid it merely breaks into many others that cause more wide spread damage, it also has them scattered in endless numbers in a random pattern and makes your gun overheat and it just goes on and on with no breaks... it's just horrific. Every time I go through that section if feels miserable and I can't help but feel like the game is deliberatley trying to make this as hard as possible because it wants me to lose.

So that's my example, how about you? What points in games do you get the wierd feeling that the game is somehow self aware and now plotting to make itself as difficult as possible and twisting the odds so insanely out of your favor that it reaches the point of wondering why you should even bother trying?

Pokemon. On occasion you'll find a trainer who has a Pokemon that not only has evolved before it should have, it possesses moves that it shouldn't have at that level.
Examples (all from Gold/Silver/Crystal, oddly enough):
Falkner has a level 9 Pidgeotto - Pidgey evolves at level 18.
The rival has a level 20 Haunter when you meet him in Burned Tower. Gastly evolves at level 25.
Lance has a level 50 Dragonite (Dragonair usually doesn't evolve into lv55) which knows Barrier. Which Dragonite has never been able to learn.

Even more jarringly, it seems that whenever I inflict a status like confusion or paralysis, it doesn't hinder the enemy in any way - whereas if one of my critters gets it, it'll do something like kill itself with its own confusion.
And don't get me started on instant-kill moves....

The bosses in both Tekken 5 and DOA 4 - surely on easy you shouldn't have to be an expert to win? Teleporting is pretty cheap.
I know a lot of people are probably good enough to deal with them, but they're still a nasty jump up from anyone you fight earlier.

Bloody Tropes, I know what you mean. You're just innocently reading, then they bring up something that you have no idea what it means, or sounds funny, then you open it in another tab. Repeat 969459764258942385426 QUINTEXEZIPILLION TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jinpachi from Tekken 5 can do a move that's about 3 frames long, bypasses block and stuns you. He can then choose to rape your health bar in a variety of interesting and unique fashions. None of which are very sporting. I've never felt like winning against him was an achievement or used skill. It's always, ALWAYS been luck. Because if he wants, he can just *decide* you're going to lose. And nothing you do will change that. He'll stun you and spam fireballs, and you're just out of it.

Also, rubberband AI in racing games like Midnight Club 3 can get frustrating. Especially when they have infinite amounts of boost in a game where YOU only get limited boost usage.

Another way games can feel like they're cheating is in FPS titles, when the AI is so accurate I start reaching for the button that'll let me report aimbot usage. It's been mentioned by certain Escapist reviewers that the stealth portions of Farcry (and Farcry: Instincts) were mostly ruined by virtue of the AI's uncanny ability to see you through 5 layers of shrubbery.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The whole bloody thing. When playing that game, I learned that jamaicans all practice a special kind of voodo that neuters the effect of being shot in the face, while at the same time giving them spectacular abilities of speed and accuracy.

Bastards.

Virtually every single enemy in Max Payne is Duke Nukem 3d is a rookie trap.

The worst part is in Duke Nukem is when you enter an elevator. When you reach the top the opposite side of door opens and an enemy shoots you with a shotgun. Since every side of the elevator looks identical there is no reason why anyone should suspect, much less know that there is an enemy waiting on the other side.

The last boss in Snake Rattle & Roll. I licked many a foot in that game, but the last one was a foot which I could not lick. Apparently it can be done, but you can't let up for more than a second, while dodging asteroids and handling an isometric view on an NES controller. I've never encountered a game which felt like it was just ramping up the difficulty needlessly more than that game.

CoD4 on veteran. Instead of trying to make it actually challenging IW opted to just have a thousand grenades fly at you every second.

Any game or minigame that involves a 50/50 shot at success. Especially Rock Paper Scissors-type games. There is no better example of the 50/50/90 rule (if it's a 50/50 chance of success, there's a 90% chance you'll get it wrong) than in these situations.

Juggling is cheap, they should rename Tekken to Juggle Fighter.
Another annoying Juggler is Raphael (I call him Ralphy) from the Soul Calibur series. He has a simple combo (O,O,O) that does quick fencing jabs that can keep you in the air until you die. I've run into more than one computer Ralphy who killed me doing this.

I was never killed by grenades on Veteran, at least not any more than normal. What got me was how the enemy targeted me and only me 100% of the time. And my allies all stayed behind me, and never fired a single round.
It turned CoD4 into Halo [Minus the super-jumpy-shieldy-parts].
