Pokèmon... When will we finally be able to catch them ALL??

What they said. Also, their powers got out of hand here. Kyogre and Groudon were the limit, I think. Pokémon Emerald, had it been a bona-fide RPG, would have been epic, with its story. But now, the god pokèmon, the space pokèmon... Sigh... What's next? The multi-dimensional Pokémon? Oh, wait... Celebi, right.

What, haven't you heard? You're going to be allowed to catch trainers after the new games come out.

...nah, just kidding. Honestly, I dun care if I "Catch 'em all" or not. I'll catch the ones I want, breed 'em silly until I have the right kind, then enter 'em into tournaments...

If it were up to me, I would wrap up the series with two or three "Ultimate Versions", between which all Pokemon ever coded were accessible to anyone with the patience to obtain them, even (especially) those previously only available from promo events.
Seriously - I can't have a Mew because Nintendo is never, ever going to hold an event within 100 miles of my town? That's hardly fair; I've worked as hard on my Pokedex as any of those city folk.
Or, if the series was to keep going indefinitely, I would seek to design games that could grow with it - new areas and generations take the form of DLC and expansions (on some future handheld which could support them.)Or maybe a Pokemon MMO?


Of course, it's not up to me. So, to answer the original question: I fear that we will never truly be able to Catch 'em All, and I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

After the original series (when I was about 6/7) it just became ridiculous. There's only ever been 150 in my mind.

I did stop caring about 8 years ago though, so that may be why.

OT: I don't think you'll ever catch 'em all just because some pokemon aren't available through just playing the games. Remember pokemon that only evolve through trading? Or the Pokemon you have to go to stores to get?

I actually don't mind them adding waves of new pokemon. The newer generations don't quite have the same spark as the first 2 but there's always a few good ones in there, and it just adds variety to an already fun game.

I have to say, I laughed. My Darkrai is called Cat Craver. I once got a Mr. Mime over the World Trade Center called BABYKILLER. It was somehow fitting of Mr. Mime.

The first Pokémon guide I ever bought had a warning on the first page: "Don't even try to catch all the Pokémon in the world. It's an impossible task". That was back when we only had 151 Pokémon. None knew that would actually make sense in the future, since the goal for catching them all is now as likely as finding Waldo in an Atlético de Madrid match.
