So i recently started playing Ni no kuni . And i don't know if i'm the only one , but the combat system makes my think of pokemon ( and little bit of SMT games ). I was thinking , if they made a console pokemon game like this it would be amazing . For you who haven't played the game , you play as Oliver , and you combat using familiars , which are basically little monsters that you acquire through combat . Each familiar has a type ,move sets that you aquire through leveling up, individual stats ,elemetal strengths and weaknesses , and they even evolve into stronger forms . Basically pokemon . You can have 3 familiars at any given time . And when you aquire more they go into storage if ever you want to switch them out . Unlike pokemon The combat is real time.

Now my question is , for those who have played it , or those who know a bit about the game , do you think a pokemon game similar to Ni no kuni would work ? And why havent gamefreak done this yet? Seriously , it seems like a perfect rough draft to base a pokemon game on . It's so similar it's crazy . It could definately be done . Would you buy a console pokemon game that resembled Ni no kuni?

I tried the demo. I didn't enjoy the combat, to be honest. Also, I'm a big Pokemon fan, soo... yeah.

I'd for sure buy a console Pokemon game. I loved every minute of Ni No Kuni. Ever since the N64 games I always wondered why they would never make a true console Pokemon. Sure, they had Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium but I think you know what I mean. I think what would be awesome would be a remake of the original Red and Blue. That would be amazing.

"why havent gamefreak done this yet":
The same reason why EA Sports makes glorified DLC and sells them for retail prices.
It's cheaper, and easier, to add JUST ENOUGH to be a 'new game' because you know idiots will buy it.

The MegaTen series eclipsed PKMN back in the DemiKids day, hell maybe even Persona 1, but Pokemon is 'cute' and has an anime series that won't end.

They did make a remake of Red and Blue for the Game Boy Advance: LeafGreen and FireRed. Granted they were also handhelds.

OT: I probably wouldn't mind seeing a Pokemon game similar to Ni No Kuni. Real time battles and the like. Sorta makes me wonder why they haven't done something like that yet. At least for the main series games anyway.

Pokemon is meant to be played in short bursts or while doing something else. If it was a console game that required you sit down for hours doing nothing but play Pokemon, the grindiness of it would much more immediately evident. I suppose they could also put some extra effort in to spruce it up, like make the gameplay more engaging or story more interesting, but that'd require much more work on their own.

Well the creators of Ni No Kuni cited Pokemon to be one of their main influences, so that explains why you found it so similar.
I also had this thought as well and went through many conversations about it, all ending up in the same place "WE NEED THIS GAME".
As for why Gamefreak hasn't done it yet is because they don't want to take the risk with the market, plain and simple.
The fighting system may be just feel a bit different but the elements that have changed are huge and with a fanbase so big no one wants to risk alienating any of them, even now that a game has done it and it has been shown to be successful they still won't do it due to risk of a fan outcry.

Personally I'd buy the hell out of it and love it. Hell, I'd buy a console just for it.

well Ive never played Ni No Kuni so I dont know exactly what its like but there already is a real-time console pokemon game. Its called Pokemon Rumble. Its probably more simplistic than Ni NO Kuni but I played the demo once and seemed pretty fun.

I'm doubting a Pokemon kind of thing would really work. To be honest, the closest Level5's ever gotten to Pokemon is the Insectron Stadium in Rogue Galaxy. Also, the amount of time that people spend on the Pokemon saves can be astronomical, and I'm not entirely certain that would translate well to console games. Sure, there was Disgaea (which I logged over 200 hours in), but that was a niche title KNOWN for that. Nintendo's been oddly conservative with the American releases of their flagship product, and I don't think they'd be big on risking that here.

Sure, I'd play the console Pokemon game, but I don't make up a huge part of the market.

Also, Level5? LEARN HOW TO MAKE AI CONTROLLED TEAMMATES BLOCK. I mean really, this problem's been around in so many of your games: Rogue Galaxy, White Knight Chronicles, and now Ni No Kuni. It can't be that hard to have a stat tied to a percentage that's related to a random number generator, right?

I don't think that's what he meant by "console". The 3DS is a handheld. I think he meant like the Wii, XBOX 360, or PS3 or something.

Ah, ok. Wasn't aware there was one on the Wii. Google has failed me again!
