Somewhere they added back in the Day/Night system, although I'm not sure what generation that happened on.
That would be in the Gen 4 games. Though Gen 3 did have a night time just no changes in the lighting or graphics or anything.

Full 3D remake of Generation 3 complete with full-scale Kanto post-ending. Wii U only, every Pokemon ever available for capture.

At least, that's what I'm hoping.

What I hope it will be: Gen. 3 remakes, a game on the 3DS, new Snap game, Pokémon Grey

What I hope it won't be: Black 3/White 3, a game on the Wii U, new Ranger game, new type of spin off, new generation

Gen 5 (Black and White, Black 2, White 2)---> Moving Pokemon sprites, somewhat more 3D (environmental only), Dream World (Berry growing is here), removed partner Pokemon...
Moving pokemon sprites were implemented in Emerald.
Actually that was as early as crystal version, removed from ruby and sapphire. Re-implemented in emerald.

I also seem to recall gen 3 HAVING a day/night cycle. Then again, maybe I'm remembering only emerald.

I'd love that. I played the shit out of Pokemon Colosseum, but then Gale of Darkness was overall pretty bad. Another good 3d pokemon game would be awesome. It would be especially amazinng if they were 3D remakes of Ruby/Sapphire. Gen 3 is one of my favourites, and they haven't been remade yet.

They could be doing something similar to Smash Bros in that they're going to announce 2 games currently in production, one on the Wii U and one on the 3DS. I'm kinda hoping for a Ruby/Sapphire remake on the handheld and a big RPG/Adventure on the Wii U. The Gamepad could display the game in a classic top-down style and everything. Whatever it is, I can't wait for the 8th.

An open-world, online Pokémon would be the tits.

If it's not that, though, I've always wanted a game that involved every single region, like how Gold/Silver/Crystal let you go back to Kanto.

From reading through the comments it sounds like my opinion that the series is pretty stagnant holds some weight, a move to 3D could do them a world of good.

You would think a serious competitor would have risen up by now to challenge the series, especially as it's been essentially the same thing for nigh on 10 years. Is there any sort of alternative to Pokemon?
The Digimon World series of games employ similar gameplay mechanics.

(Fire) Red and (Leaf) Green remake---> Was anything new actually in this?
Wireless added for trading and battling. Not over Wi-fi, but using something that came with the game.

Heart Gold and Soul Silver added running as an on/off kind of thing rather than pressing B.

OT: My best guess would be a remake at this point. They have already made a spin-off for the 3DS and a new Mystery Dungeon is being made. I doubt (but hope) we'll ever see a Pokemon game in full 3D that offers the same adventure as the portable games.

Makes sense. They really wrung that cow dry. So it's about time they gave it a milk transplant.
This is a franchise of Nintendo, so I doubt they are going to gave it all wrung out. Mario's still going strong despite the fact he cannot defend the love of hi life every effectively. He always needs to traverse the world/universe to save his embarrasingly frequently kidnapped girlfriend just to be able to save her, in I have lost count how many games...
