The first game of pokemon I played, I only used my starter for the entire game. It was a squirtle. Although, I did catch pokemon in the wild, but I never bothered leveling them up. By the time I reached the Elite Four, it was a level 90 juggernaut of a blastoise. It overwhelmed the Elite Four up til Gary, where by that time it was too worn out to continue fighting.

My most recent game with Soul Silver, I stuck my starter in the box as I had caught a Vulpix. As Ninetails is my favorite pokemon by far, and because I didn't need two fire pokemon in the my group, I ditched my starter. I've never regretted it. Ninetails is a good pokemon, and it's not too common to see pokemon weak to fire, anyway. Most pokemon battles I can take on with either my machamp or my dragonaire.

I wish they would change up the starter pokemon types. Psychic, Dark, and Fighting is a triangle which could work, and I could probably find more.

With the exception of Yellow, I've always used the water starter, and except for maybe a short time in Diamond/Pearl, my starter is always in my party.I feel like I'm abandoning him/her and I can't ever do it.

I usually go with the fire type starter, because it forces me to get other pokemon. Makes it more fun and diverse. Makes a better bond, I guess you'd say. With Grass and Water you can just power through the whole game with just that pokemon. With Fire, you've got to work at it.

Ever since I first got my Red version when I was 7 I have chosen grass. Then Diamond fucked that up with the Turtwig. Like I would fucking choose something that gay. But now the 5th generation will fix my tradition with the epic Smugleaf (I know its name is Snivvy but FUCK THAT RETARD NAME! I'm naming it Smugleaf!!!!!)

I almost alwats pukc the reptile:

Charzaird, Feraligatr, Sceptile, I picked Empoleon for 4th gen on pearl becuase all the 4th gen starters sucked, and it seemed the lesser of the evils. (the grass one was horrible, and I didn't want a monkey version of blazekin).

I usually pick fire, Charizard is still the greatest pokemon in my opinion. If I Can get my hands on a charmander in white that would be great.

Put I'm not a fan of the pig, but I love reptiles so this time, and this time only, I'm going for the grass starter.

But I do keep my starter pokemon on me but after a while it becomes my 'problem solver' if my other pokemon are having trouble with the fight I bust out my starter to fix it. But it basically always has a place amoungst my elite 6.

Starters, in my mind, are meant to get you through the game. Once I finish the Elite 4, screw them. They're of no use to me in competitive play.
hey dont talk shit on swampert.

stealth rock, yawn, boil, earthquake. what were you saying?

anyways I general choose the water starter. im not planing on using my starter in black once I get the psycho goth, or my fire monkey.

I've always picked the grass pokemon. I don't know why, I just like it like that. Bulbasaur was the coolest thing that ever happened to me since n64:)

Well yeah, I thought everyone stayed with their starter, it's your starter, you're closest pal and one true friend (In the game, I'm not lonely!)

the first ever starter i had (in pokemon blue) was a squirtle. but i didn't stick with it. i just randomly pick one of the 3 to start with and go. It makes very little difference to my gameplaying (except that the fire usually has a disadvantage in the first few gyms...).

i sometimes play through certain games a few times. i've used every starter at least once. like i said, makes no difference to me...

AHH BAN IT!!!!!

But seriously, I just feel like using starters is cheap. I don't quite know why.
stealth rock pisses me off too, but I figured my opinion isnt going to change anything so I might as well join them. I like my swampert because ive had him for three games now, soon to be four.

I must have played the original and second gen games over 30 times. I've started with every starter. I've never been particularly... attached to the water starters. But I have to say:

1st gen: I split between Bulbasaur and Charmander. Charizard is my favorite starter evo of all time, but I am rather fond of the bulb toad as well :)

2nd gen: Cyndaquil. No one else ever came close. Typhlosion EXPLOSION.

3rd gen: Torchic. Again, nothing else even came close. Treecko was USELESS in the Gen 3 games, and I never like Marshtomp or Swampert.

4th gen: Pokemon and I almost had a falling out here. They fucked up a fire starter. That retarded ass monkey with fire coming out of ass with the pathetic looking noodle arms. I picked Turtwig, and even though he's not my favorite starter, I do like the little guy. A lot more than I ever liked Treecko anyway.

5th gen: I genuinely really like Snivy. He's just very well designed. I'm going to be picking him. Nintendo has almost got my faith restored in the fire starters again with Tepig, his design is ok, but the fire/fight thing for the third time is really starting to piss me off. I want them to make a GOOD fire starter again. I really hope they do, because fire is one of my favorite types in the game.

So to answer the question: I have split loyalty between grass and fire.

So far I've had 2 grass starters (Bulbasaur and Turtwig) and 2 fire starters (Cyndaquill and Torchic). This time around I'm going with Snivy (grass type again). Sorry water starters, but none of you have ever been able to pique my interest.

i choose the one based on the gym battles ahead, im not going to choose a water type if the first or 2nd gym is grass based.
This time it's different in Black and White. The Gym leader you fight has the Type that is strong against yours.

I always use fire, I don't care so much if it's ugly or not, but rarely do I go astray. The only time I do is if I'm doing another play through and the other starters have piqued my interest.

Except for Gold and Silver, because Cyndaquil is just so damn cute and awesome!
