Pokemon EV training

I started to EV train my Pokemon and once I got to about 4 or 5 fully EV trained Pokemon, I thought, to hell with this. It kills all the fun. It is sooooo time consuming and it is just a plain pain in the ass. But I hate the idea of wasting the brilliant concept of EV training. So I am thinking that I won't bother EV training for it is not really needed at all unless you plan to do the whole meta-game crap. That is, until I get to Battle Frontier. I will then make one really awesome EV trained team because I know that the Battle Frontier can get pretty difficult without proper training. So what is you all's opinion on EV training?

I love it. EV training while time consuming...is worth it. Drugging the Pokemon is a lazy attempt at it because you barely get any EVs from it. Plus.. the Battle Frontier can be really cheap.

...whats ev training?
Basically...you battle a certain pokemon over and over until you level up. A stat that would normally go up by 1-3 can go up to 8-24 depending on which pokemon you fight.

It's basically just a slight tweak on Pokemon grinding then?

That is correct.

Seems to me like this is really about competitive pokemon in general. EV training is just one aspect of competitive play, and no less time-consuming or important than things like breeding.

Personally, I don't really feel like it's for me, as the battles themselves don't interest me enough to put that effort into it and if I wanted to battle competitively I'd use Shoddy.

Aside from that, the things I remember enjoying from pokemon were when I was surprised. I.E., first time playing through a game and discovering awesome pokemon, and competitive battling ruins that.

Yeah, a certain pokemon that you battle will give you certain stats. Magikarp, for example, gives you +1 points for speed in EV points. And for every 4 speed EV points you get, you gain one extra speed stat when you level up. That is just the extreme basics. But EV training is essentially a way to train a specific stat. Either to balance a Pokemon stats or make one of their stats extreme [though it is limited]

Unless you use the berries that lower a stat.

I had that info in my notepad on my computer. Thank you Bulbapedia. That and my guide book helped.

I never EV train. I raise 'em all natural like, the way I always have and always will.
Nothing wrong with that either. And if you have PBR, beating players with a non-ev'd team is awesome.
