i played pokemon sapphire/emerald as my first pokemon game(not including pokemon stadium), and i felt they were pretty good.
I played some of the leaf green or fire red(can't remember which) and it didn't seem as good. Maybe i was just bored of pokemon by then.

Well, yes, there are some of the Generation I Pokémon who look ridiculous, like Dugtrio and Magneton. I've never really grasped how, for instance, fusing three Magnemite would make them evolve into one Magneton.

But there are wonky Pokémon in every generation, and each one has their most and least favourite kind. Personal preference, if you will.

I think the Pokémon games are as fun as ever, and they've tweaked each installment to the better. Black and White are the best of the bunch.

I think after Gold/silver they got silly, the further pokemon goes the less interesting the pokemon get and the more cartoonized and dumb they seem to get. I saw the pokemon in black and white and the best one in the entire lineup...Ducklett, because it doesn't look so bloody stupid compared to what they initially did with the first games of pokemon.

And I think that anyone who'd argue the new pokemon are well designed and are good are oblivious that 90% of them are copies of other pokemon from previous generations. Which is NOT a good thing, it just means the game has become a spinoff of itself and that's just not a good thing in my head.

I feel that each time they make a new game, while improving graphics and gameplay, they also make some pretty neat Pokemon. People say the first generation was the best, but it honestly wasn't. Sure it set up what it is now, but from the viewpoint of now, it's really buggy and flawed.

No, I don't think so, I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. Gold and silver were awesome, after that things got weird, and I think they were trying way too hard to catch the same essence that gold and silver had.

I still like this generation a hell of a lot more than the last one, the leveling in that one was fucking painful.

When it comes to Pokémon designs, the older games are better. But gameplay wise, the new games are way better than the old ones, especially the 1st generation of games. Remember when Psychic types destroyed everything because the only Pokémon that they were "weak" against were part poison?

Yeah, OP, I agree. Earlier generations are awesome but now? Eh, something about the design ethic is just gone. None of the designs are anywhere near as memorable, and there really is too many of them.

When I was young naming all 151 Pokémon made you a badass. Naming them all now would probably make you autistic. ;D

Yeah. God forbid anybody, oh I don't know, just plain likes the designs more or anything. They're obviously just oblivious to the fact that older designs are better (since original always means better, naturally).

The first few were good, but the updated graphics help a lot (like FireRed), and Black/White are pretty awesome...

All together now! Falsetto, lead us in!

NooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOoooo~

I'll say this: Most of my favorite Pokémon were introduced in Gen II, Gold/Silver/Crystal. However, I've found that each generation had its gems, its moments, and its advances. Gen III had some of the best legendaries (FUCK YEAH KYOGRE), and the whole Secret Base thing was a fun little aside. Gen IV had the physical/special split to rebalance competitive battling, as well as the new art style (which could have been better, but still). Finally, Gen V, which I just finished the storyline and legendary-capturing aspects of, has one of the most compelling stories I've encountered in any RPG, something I never thought I would say about a Pokémon game. Oh, yeah, and the graphics are awesome.

Every gen had something the others didn't. That's all it takes to make it fun every time.

Or is my nostalgia kicking in?...

It just seems like the art was better and less... How should I put it complicated?... No thats not the right term... Alright lets provide some examples.

Now... I always liked him from the moment I nabbed him in silver...

Then I see this.. And can't help but to compare

I can't bring myself to play the newer games...

Why exactly is this?
2nd gen was the best. since then there have been wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too many pokemon, and you don't even get to go back and redo the previous regions anymore. pathetic.

They're really the same, that's their problem if anything (although I still love them). Obviously over time the vibe of the designs have changed, but that's how it works for any constant franchise. Overall the games haven't regressed from the early games at all.

No. Designs have always sucked, its just fact of life. But the mechanics have only been getting better.

Then enjoy your lame spin off of something instead of asking for something original. I don't really care how you take my opinion on the matter. You can point at any design and just say "copy of pikachu" or "copy of magnamite" easily with these pokemon.

It'd be fine if a few were inspired but I'm talking like the B&W pokemon are literally copies of the older pokemon as if another company were trying to make their own pokemon game. It lacks originality and if you're okay with that then that's fine for you. But if they're gonna make a new game with "new pokemon" I'd have hoped for actual new ones and not a slight visual change.

I really do disagree with this. Completely and utterly.

Sure, there's an obvious similarity between Zubat and Woobat. (The name is even a pun on the old one.) But the thing that Pokémon has always done right when introducing new creatures is provide them with a brand new, unique backstory and physique.

Check your Pokédex. Or if it sucks and you've caught less than 50 of the things, check Serebii or any of the other sites with online Pokédexes. Compare the entries of any two "similar" Pokémon, and bask in the detail. Height, weight, information about how the species behaves... go on, try to tell me that Zubat and Woobat are carbon-copies of each other. If you're looking at an online Dex, check the movesets, the abilities... see exactly how different they really are. Every single species of Pokémon feels different, unique. That has never changed, and it likely never will. Unless they create "Yubat" which is a Zubat with slightly larger fangs and one word changed in its Dex entry.

They've added detail but the pokemon are the same with a different look to them. Zubat and woobat are not different, it's a spinoff. The gear pokemon is magnamite, I looked over my friends pokedex of all the new ones. There's a exact copy of machokes entirety. They're not new, they're the same thing with a "mask" over them.

There's even a freaking pikachu clone it's NOT NEW, is it a good game sure it could be but when people brag "new pokemon" I didn't expect them to be deformed clones of old ones.

Every game thus far, including the first, is a bit of a mixed bag. They each had good and bad ideas. But B&W is the first that reallly felt different to me, both in terms of looks and ideas. While I still miss Team Rocket, Plasma doesn't seem that bad (So far, I'm still in prep for gym 3.)

I suggest you give B&W a chance. I can honestly say that it's the best one since GSC. it's just a ton of fun. it feels like a whole new game. it's still Pokemon, but it feels really fresh. it's a fun game, just give it a chance
