[HEADING=1]Pokemon Oren Team B: An Unbearable Hike[/HEADING]

Character Name: Carter McCaskill

Age: 25

Hometown: Goldenrod City

Appearance: A dashing looking young man, Carter McCaskill stands at a fair 5'11". A cold face formed of angled planes is vaguely reminiscent of the stone statues of ancient civilizations. While not overly buff or muscled, he is nonetheless an imposing figure with an arrogant stride and form of moving. He has short, red-brown air and hazel eyes.

Profession: Ex-Trainer - Currently a monk

Specialty: Bug

Pokemon: Heracross (Herakles)

Bio:

Born to a pair of wealthy businessmen in Goldenrod City, the center of commerce in Johto, Carter McCaskill grew up in an extremely competitive environment. From day one he was taught that only the victorious matter. He became a very cold individual, disdaining almost all he came in contact with. His father actively encouraged this, promoting his son's vindictive nature.

Eventually, in his mid-teens, he became a Pokemon trainer. By no means a master, he still managed to make quite an impact in the Johto League, toppling several gym leaders with vicious, merciless attack strategies. This, combined with the semi-celebrity status of his father caused a small media swirl.

After defeating the gym leader of his own hometown, Carter was approached by an elderly man, dressed humbly and with but a pair of Pokeballs at his belt. With a smile, the man requested that Ben have a friendly bout with him. Ben, of course, snorted and prepared to steamroll the man, but was dumbfounded as the man deftly ordered his Pokemon, Carter's all out assaults melting on the man's agile, defensive Pokemon. In short order, Carter had been soundly beaten.

He pursued the monk, accosting him with requests to be taken under his wing; while cold, Carter was indeed respectful of his superiors. The monk agreed to teach him his fighting style, which he called Running Water, but only if Carter could find an inner peace and settle his anger.

He invited Carter to become an initiate of his order, a group of ascetic monks living on the slopes of the mountains of Sinnoh. Carter agreed without hesitation and left behind all but his clothes and a single Pokemon; the first he caught himself, a Heracross.

Years passsed, and the old man finally began to teach Carter the art of Running Water. Only days into the training, however, the man fell ill, and died shortly after, the same day that the letter arrived in the mail. A boiling sea of emotions filling him, Carter decided to follow the letter's instructions, determined to discover his own style of Running Water, and to honor the man's memory.

Every night when he would check in the same area and there it would be to greet him.

When he was 11, he was given a choice to obtain his first pokemon from the starter set by none other then Professer Oak. He was excited about getting one, but he really didn't want to take the starter set because he felt that Misdreavus was the one for him. Professer Oak asked to see Misdreavus and he took him to where it was. He saw Misdreavus and asked if it could come down to the labratory. Nathan took Misdreavus over, and Professer Oak examined it, and said that it was a perfectly healthy pokemon. He turned to Nathan and gave him a pokeball. Misdreavus floated down to Nathan and nudged the pokeball, and it opened and took Misdreavus in. Nathan was happy that Misdreavus chose to be with him. Name: Ben Surge-Wilde
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Hometown: Vermilion City

Appearance: Ben is an overly-athletic looking teenager, with fairly well developed muscles, and a strong face that naturally grins a bit in the neutral position. His hair is a a blond, messy style that he lets fall naturally to create a sort of disheveled look. He stands about 5'11", and weighs almost 200 lbs. from the muscle he's gained. He wears a green jacket over a blue t-shirt, and baggy green pants.

Profession: Trainer. Ben was attempting to complete the Pokemon League Challenge before he was called away on this urgent trip.
Type Specialty: Fire
Pokemon: Houndour

Bio: Ben grew up in Vermilion City with his mother, who was divorced from her husband shortly before the son was born. From a very young age he took an interest in Pokemon, and his father, the gym leader Lt. Surge, took notice while watching from afar. He approached Ben and demanded that he pick a type: Electric or Fighting, as they were the two most common to Vermilion City. As it happened, Ben chose Electric; his father was extremely pleased, and trained with him most days of the week at the local gym. However, as Ben got older his own opinions began to form, and they grated against his father's, particularly around the subject of family. At around the age of 15 they got into a very heated argument over Ben's mother, his father's ex-wife. In the end, they came to blows according to the other trainers at the gym. No one knows what was said at the end, but Ben left town shortly afterward and went to Pallet Town, where he demanded that Professor Oak give him a Pokemon to use. Although the latest batch of starters were already reserved, Oak happened to have a Houndour recently given to him by his colleague Prof. Elm, and gave it to Ben to use, seeing his love of Pokemon.

With his new companion, Ben set out to conquer the Kanto region. Though he made little progress before being called away, Ben had already established a reputation in the western half of the region for his tenacious, fiery battling style, as he and his Houndour carved a swathe through trainer after trainer, the pair even defeating Brock with ease. However, the other half of his reputation was as a hater of Electric Pokemon, utterly decimating any trainer he saw using one.
Name: Ryan Walker

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Hometown: Mauville City

Appearance: Ryan stands at 6' exactly, and is kind of thin, though he prefers the term 'wiry.' He has short, light brown hair with a vaguely lightning bolt-shaped blond streak on the front-right side. He also has brown eyes, and can almost always be seen with a huge grin on his face. He wears a yellow hooded jacket over a dark grey T-shirt, blue jeans, and brown sandals.

Profession: Trainer

Type Specialty: Electric

Pokemon: Magnemite

Bio: Ryan was born in Mauville, and had a rather normal, though very happy, childhood. When he was 14, Ryan began training with his grandfather, Wattson, at his Gym. Their combined energy and mirth was almost too much for some. When Ryan got the invitation, the first thing he did was burst into laughter. The second thing he did was venture into New Mauville and capture a Magnemite, his reasoning being that the added challenge of using a new Pokemon would make things more fun. Ryan's cheerful attitude and seemingly endless energy will sometimes rub off on people and Pokemon near him. In fact, that energy has brought his Pokemon back from the brink of defeat on more than one occasion.
Name: Terinth Mal?ik (Maal-eek)
Age: 13
Gender: Female
Hometown: Black City
Appearance: 6?3?, with blond hair that curls at the end, smooth, rounded chin with blue eyes. Likes to wear a black jacket with the Canalave gym badge emblem on the back, green undershirt, black, baggy pants, white skate shoes.
Profession: Coordinator
Type Specialty: Water
Pokemon: Purotooga

Bio: A bit of a tomboy, Terinth knew she wanted to be a coordinator the moment she saw her first Pokemon contest. She loved the dazzle and flare of the pokemon, and together with her Purotooga, she moved to the Sinnoh region to compete in the Super Contests there, only winning two of her contests. She has since left Sinnoh to begin training her Purotooga in the Kanto region. She barely got the letter in time before she left to go to Hoenn for a relaxation trip. She has since gathered up everything she could find to help her on this journey (but that wasn?t even much).
Other: The only two contests she won were when they didn?t award ribbons.
Name:David Martin

Age:17

Gender:Male

Hometown:Cianwood

Appearance:David is a normal looking boy, 5' 6" and 150 pounds. He is very muscular for his build however, from the intense training he was put through. He has a simple white gi, and a black belt around his waist. He has spiky brown hair that stands straight up without much work from himself. He goes barefoot and has a scar down his right leg.

Profession:Black Belt

Type Specialty:Fighting

Pokemon:Tyrogue

Bio:David grew up in Cianwood with his father Chuck, The local gym leader. His father specialized in fighting type pokemon, and in turn David grew to like them more and more, as he trained with his father day by day learning the different techniques of fighting and training hard to become a black belt, like his father. When David turned seventeen his father finally deemed him a black belt, through extensive training and hard work, and he granted David one pokemon, a Tyrogue. David grew to love the Tyrogue and it's fighting spirit, and they began training together for a few days, until David got a letter in the mail, asking him to go off to a new region. He called to his Tyrogue, which was punching a wall at the time, and hurried off toward his fathers house. Chuck felt like this was great news, and wished him all the best to his new training in a foreign area. David felt giddy as he waited for the time to come, still training until the day arrived.
Your mission in Oren is to help its citizens and show the other regions what we are made of! And what?s the best place to show them what where made of? The Pokemon league of course.

Oren has been selected to host the first of many World Pokemon Leagues. Trainers from around the world will come to our stadiums (Still under construction) to prove that they are the best. You?re all going to enter the Pokemon League and one of you will become the first World Champion. Now because we have to go by the official rules you all need gym 8 badges to enter. Unfortunately there are only a few in Oren so we had to work around it. In some of the major Cities there will be an official who will give you all badges after you prove yourself worthy.

But before you start worrying about gym badges I have a job for your team. I need you to give a message to Mayor Samson of Willow Village. To get there you will have to travel north along the road and you have to head through the old wildlife preserve. Don?t worry; it?s not a preserve anymore so any Pokemon there you can catch.

By the way Team B is so generic. Why don?t you come up with a cooler name for your team?

Love Desmond

Before the trainers left each trainer was given a bag. The bag contained 5 Pokeballs, 2 Potions, enough food for the journey, a sleeping bag and a tent. The letter containing the message was placed on top of the bags; one of the trainers would have to carry it.

What is in your bag is all you really have. I do not want to see people pulling Revives, Berries etc out of thin air. I will tell you guys when you get to the preserve, until then try pick a name IC.

As the man disappeared into his ivory tower (dohohoho), Carter frowned and glanced at the device handed to him. Flipping it open, he read the message with a slight frown. A... league challenge? He called them all here for a league challenge? Sucking his teeth thoughtfully, Carter threw the bag over his shoulder and glanced at those who would become his 'team.'

He shook his head and tried to forget that fact. At least Herakles would have something to practice on besides trees.

"Ugh, why'd it have to be pink!?" Drake whined as he examined the device he was given. He opened it up and read the message inside... "Huh, Team name eh? Hmm.....Our pokemon are fully healed!!! Sweet!"

Drake dug into his front right pocket and pulled out Arcana's Pokeball. "Come out and enjoy the day with me Arcana!" Drake spoke aloud as he tossed the pokeball up into the air. A resounding pop came from the ball as it opened and unleashed the pokemon onto the ground. A cheerful Ralts came to life as the light from the ball faded.

"How are you feeling Arcana? Do you feel better?" Drake asked his small partner.

Arcana tilted her head back so she could see her tamer. She smiled and let out a cheerful reply. "Ralts!" As if to say: "I'm fine!"

"Oh, well that's great!" Drake cheered. He picked up the backpack of stuff and threw it around his shoulders. Drake picked up Arcana's Pokeball and returned it to his pocket. "I have a feeling that this journey is going to be fun, don't you agree Arcana?

"Ralts!" Came the cheerful reply.

"Heheheh...Alright. Now," He stated as he turned to the rest of the group. "I think we should introduce ourselves before rushing off. My name is Drake Langston and this is Arcana, my Ralts. It is a pleasure to be traveling with you." Drake Explained, gesturing to himself and Arcana respectively.

Sitting down on the dirt with his notes of Ghost pokemon, his concentration of looking over them breaks and he checks his Gear and looks over the Message. ".... .... .... ...." In his mind *Great...more fighting that we have to do.* Ignoring the team name message and then flipping the gear screen down.

Looking up and seeing his opponent from the Stadium introducing himself and his pokemon. After he was done, Nathan went over to Drake and said "Hello again, I'm glad to see that your Ralts is ok." Looking down to see the glee it shows from its body language. "Heheh, such a wonderful Pokemon." Crouching down to take another look at it. "Anyways..." turning to face the group.

Placing a hand over his chest "My name is Nathan Amata, I am a Cataloger of Ghost Pokemon and their traits. I guess you could call me an enthusiast of them."

Looking around the area for his pokemon "And..." thinking that his pokemon is already out and just hiding, but...

Pokeball Opens to reveal

His pokemon comes out and yawns. "Miissss...." blinking its eyes awake and seeing the group for the first time.

"Misdreavous!" Suprised to see a large group of people and hides behing Nathan.

"and this is my partner, June." Looking over his shoulder and says "Come say hi, they won't bite. I promise." His Misdreavous floats close next to Nathan and bows her head and floats back behind Nathan. "I'm sorry, she's shy around big groups of people." Bowing himself and says "It will be quite the experience for me to travel with you all."

Ben looked at his Gear, and read the message that was sent to everyone on his team. His feeling were mixed. He had been angry that this summoning had taken him away from the Kanto league challenge to be sure, as he was off to such a good start. But then, to discover that this was yet another League challenge was fantastic news. Especially considering that it was a global event. He'd be able to fight trainers from all around the world; maybe even celebrities among trainers, like the last kid that had beaten the Kanto challenge. Ben began to wonder where that kid had disappeared to.

He realized that he had been urged to think of a new team name, but he honestly did not care. All he could think about is the opportunity to fight new trainers in a new place. And Maybe he'd run into his brother again.

He became aware that someone was attempting to introduce themselves. He pointed a thumb up to himself and grinned.

"My name's Ben Wilde." He let out his Houndour out of its Pokeball, and pointed to it as it sat at his side. "And this is Raze. Looking forward to bringing the pain to a whole new region."

Terinth checked out the design of her gear before looking at the message inside.

"Hmmm...it looks pretty expensive, if the design was made by hand, and it's connected to a private network...if this amount of time and money was put into these things, then couldn't this Desmond guy just have brought out some professional trainers, like the Elite 4, or Red?"

"My name's Terinth Mal'ik." Terinth said as she tossed her pokeball into the air. "And this is my pokemon, Purotooga. I used to be a coordinator, but now I'm here. So what do you guys all do for a living, and what are you thinking we should name the team?"

Ryan chuckled to himself as he read the message. "League challenge, huh? Nice." He closed up his new device and put it in his pants pocket as he heard his teammates introducing themselves. He put on his best smile and turned to face them. "Ryan Walker, Mauville Gym trainer, at your service." He produced Magnemite's Pokeball from his jacket pocket, and tossed it skyward. "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!" The Pokeball opened, and Magnemite emerged. "Everyone, Magnemite. Magnemite, everyone." Magnemite happily waved it's magnets at the newly formed team.

David accepted the device, admiring it in awe and wonder. During his training his father never let him have anything technological, and having this made him sorta happy. He fiddled around with it before learning he had a message, and read it quickly. "Hmm, looks like we have to train harder!" He yelled as he reached for his pokeball and sent out Tyrogue."Isn't that right little buddy!"

Tyrogue gave a nod of approval, looking at his master. He did a few quick punches in the air, along with a few kicks before falling over and landing on his behind. He shrugged it off and got up, walking to David and gesturing to be picked up. David grabbed the little pokemon and put him on his shoulder, laughing as the Tyrogue held on tight.

Watching as the others pack their things and introduce themselves, away to himself, Nathan is in deep thought about the future ahead.

"Misdreavus?" The little girl ghost asking her master what might be the problem.

"...." Breaks concentraiton again "Oh. Well..." Looking over at Misdreavus "I was thinking about what we might encounter on the road ahead. It said that we would be first heading to the old wild pokemon preserve. I was thinking about the pokemon that might reside in there." Bringing his hands into themselves and places them over his mouth and looks around scanning the area. "Hmmmm...oh well." with a sigh, he takes his sack and moves it over his shoulder and stands up. Putting his hands to his side.

"Miisss...." with a worried tone in her coo at her master.

Placing his hand on her head, patting and running his hand through her hair. "Nothing to worry about." He says with a smile. The Pokemon nuzzling up to her master and floating onto his shoulder and sits on it. "Heheh, You'll help me out with the challenges ahead won't you?" He quizzingly asks his pokemon.

Misdreavus floats off his shoulder and floats infront of him and gives him a smile

"Confident as ever my little ghost." Patting her head and placing her back on his shoulder. Turning to the group and makes a comment about them to Misdreavus. "This is certainly an Outlandish group we have..."

Drake watched as everyone took a turn to introduce themselves to each other. After the last person had been introduced, Drake stepped forward and spoke.

"Well, now that that's out of the way we should probably get going, I'd like to reach Willow village before sundown." Drake proclaimed as he turned around and faced the Road leading north. "Shall we?"

"Ralts!" Chirped Arcana as she kept pace with her Tamer

Before Drake even got a response out of anyone Ben had already marched past him, Raze at his side. "Sounds good to me." The Vermilion native stated.

Ben looked up to see the sun was already getting lower in the sky. It was beginning to turn a bit red out; in his mind it was the perfect setting for starting a new adventure. However, he immediately reprimanded himself for such language. For reasons he didn't entirely understand thinking of this beginning like that made him angry. Unsure of what that was about, he marched forward with Raze as he made sure to be the first of the group down into the wild.

In the back of his mind he wondered how long it would before he ran into his brother again. An easy victory the first time around had actually been a little disappointing. He knew that Pat wasn't one for battling, but the skill had been in the Surge bloodline for generations. To think that he, and even worse, Dad had become breeders was inconceivable to him.

For what must be the third time since I left those two have disappointed me. I guess I always knew they were weak. I'll just have to show the world the true might of my family.

Looking at the people who are in the group, he lists their name all in head. *Ben, Drake, David, Ryan, Teri, and....* staring at the old one *...he looks like a Devin..but whatever.* Taking his place behind Terinth, he walks behind her. Nathan's partner floating next to him as they walk by.

In a low whisper to June " June, could you scout out ahead to see if anything is there? The Misdreavus nods in recognition " Alright, but stay hidden and undetected. Let me know if anything might be up there. "

As the Misdreavus floats away and hides from his sight, he walks up next to Terinth and keeps pace with her. "My my, how the young have so much energy." She shoots a glare at Nathan "I...don't mean that in a bad way, really. I know I'm still a teen, but in my head I feel old." Sighing and lowering his head, then rises his head "Anyways, I hope we can be friends on this adventure." Smiles and looks onward as he trods on with the group.

Ryan hefted his bag and started walking with the others, when he stopped, thinking he was forgetting something. He looked back, and saw Magnemite flying around happily. He waved to get its attention, and it floated over to him, following close behind as he continued walking. As he walked, he pulled out his Gear and re-read the message, and then a he had an idea. "Hey, guys, what do you think of 'Second Gear' as a team name?"

Thinking of Ryans offer for the name of the group. "Second Gear sounds like something I don't wanna play as against another group." Shrugging and shaking his head. "It might give off the feeling that we are all weaker then the other group." Taking a pause to look up into the sky, and continues walking and begins to quote a passage.

"We are the Outlanders." Looking back down and forward, picking up pace. "We are not of this land. We are a gathering of the strange and the strong. For it is not our past that binds us to this new land. We seek out that objective in our journey across the land, whatever it might take us from one end of the land to the other. It is our choice to help others if we wish to do so, but we look after ourselves as well. To show others that we, not native to the land, are people of good heart, and appericiate the gift that this land has given." Managing to reach up pace with Ben's and turn to the rest of the group.

"Although I am not of this land which has given me this chance to start a new life from one of hardship. My personal wish to this new land, is that it will treat me with a new experience that I can open my mind to the possiblities of how I may live my life here."

Lowering his head down to the ground turning back around, slowing his pace back down to the back of the group and walks behind Terinth once again.

As they were walking along, Terinth sized up the group. They had a monk, a black belt, three trainers, a catologer, and herself, a coordinator.

"What's up with this Desmond guy? If we were selected to represent this region, why didn't he have better trainers come? Or at least have people come with better pokemon? Either Desmond knows something we don't, or he's got some brain disorder." After hearing the suggestion for Second Gear team name, and have it immiediatly kicked down, Terinth tried to defend it.

"I don't know. I kind of like it. Besides, don't cars go faster when they're in second gear or something?"

"Man, trying to make small talk with this group of characters kinda feels....awkward."

Ben had been evaluating the group himself since their journey started, which means over the course of about ten minutes. However, he had somewhat different criteria than the rest.

A monk, of all things, was in their midst. Monks in Ben's mind were nothing but men who were afraid of their true destiny, who hid up in the mountains to avoid their fiery nature and cool it through forced calm. Calm, in Ben's mind, was for the trees and the wind. Men were always moving, and their souls on fire. There was no room for cool in their lives. The trainers were better, though barely. They all seemed to be extremely awkward around new people. Ben was no charismatic leader, but even he could talk to strangers. It was as if they had all just gotten out of preschool. He intended to show them all a thing or two about what it meant to be outgoing.

But worst in his mind was the little girl tagging along with their group. She was apparently a coordinator. A coordinator took Pokemon and distorted their fighting spirit to be used in flamboyant shows of cheap tricks that wouldn't even work in a real battle. They were almost as bad to him as breeders. Almost.

Finally, he decided to speak up to break the awkward silence.

"This is getting pathetic. Second Gear is a terrible name, because it uses the word 'Second' in it! Nobody's gonna be thinking about cars when you say it, because we have nothing to do with cars! We need something catchy, something strong! I know, how about the Oren Brigade--wait, wait, no. That's stupid. Maybe... Red's Wrath! You know, like that kid from Kanto."

"Why should we associate ourselves with that kid we hardly know about?" David said, looking toward Ben and finally speaking up for once during the walk. "I dont have a real suggestion, but I think that doesn't sound like a good name at all." He said, always wanting to voice his opinion. He never learned much restraint in talking when he was training, his father talked to him and he talked back, never trying to say anything different then what he always said.

Tyrogue gave a thumbs up, approving David's suggestion with a smile on it face, before it went back to running around his feet. He had a lot of energy to burn, and hoped he could fight something soon. He looked up at David with a needy look and David drew the pokeball from his belt and returned him to it.

Carter had remained at the back of the group silently, observing the children as they walked. They were all pretentious, as far as he could see. The one, Ben, was arrogant beyond belief, shooting others down without remorse and giving Carter more than one odd look. He was one to worry about. He sucked his teeth thoughtfully as the others bickered over the team name.

"Maybe... Red's Wrath! You know, like that kid from Kanto."

After David had completed his protest, Carter said softly "Why would you name yourself as the peons of another? For someone so arrogant, I find it appalling that you would suggest it." He shook his head at Ben and added "The name is pointless. At this point it only serves to separate us." He glanced at the others and fell silent, holding his arms behind his back and scanning the area for any new additions to his team. A Pineco would be most efficient... or perhaps a Vespiquen. He glanced at Ben and got the slightest feeling that the boy disliked him.

Looking over at the Monk who finally spoke. Nathan closes his eyes "True." Walking up to keep pace with the monk, but walks behind him. He saw how some of the others looked at him with negative vibes, but he really didn't see anything wrong with them. At least not yet.

Later they see an old sign which indicated what used to be the old wildlife preserve. "Well then, It seems we're on the right track then." Looking around the area. "I wonder where June is..." He turns around and his pokemon appears and suprises him with a "Misdreavus!" giving a scary face with her spook.

"Ah, Hi there June." Smiling at her "So did you find anything?" The Misdreavus shakes her head and then goes back on Nathans shoulder and rests her head against his. "Well then," Looking over at Carter "Onward?"

Drake was walking along, carrying Arcana on his head. He heard the group debating about what the team name should be and decided to throw his hat in the ring.

"How about: "Arceus's Roar? Its nice and heavy and has a nice ring to it. What do you think Arcana?" Drake suggested before asking his partner's opinion.

"Ralts!" Arcana replied with a smile on her face.

"I'll take that as a yes. What do you guys think?" Drake asked the group.
