3. A far darker storyline, possibly with the legendary Pokemon actually going out and destroying things, rather than sitting in a cave patiently waiting for a trainer to catch/kill them.

4. An MMO run by Nintendo with real-time combat and the ability to catch wild critters as Pokemon.
Yes, and make the pokemon battle to the death. Like the loser is dead. No coming back. Final Fantasy style.

3. Seperate the red/blue - gold/silver - ruby/sapphire - diamond/pearl into continents/campaigns (increases longevity)
I agree. It would probably be called something like "The Complete Pokemon" or "Pokemon Rainbow"

While I haven't played since the days of Gold/Silver, I haven't really felt a need to. Word on the street was that the only thing that'd really changed was the number of pokemon to choose from...i.e. way too many.

If anything, the number of options needs to be toned down. I feel like those who actively keep up with the franchise only end up with the same ones anyways, and have all of the same best stats, etc.

Overall, there's nothing particularly original that would actually spark a new interest in the series for me. Like I said, I don't feel like I'm particularly missing out in terms of gameplay and general content. It's still the same story, just lengthened.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this above, but perhaps something to keep in mind was that the series was generated towards kids. They're not as likely to really care about specifics, so long as for major holidays and birthdays they see a copy of the latest release. It's simplistic so they're still capable of understanding it, it gives them a sense of independence and choice, and it's not terribly difficult.

Perhaps then they could expand it, and create some sort of separate storyline that's also appealing to an older, more mature group? Something a little more realistic, and with some epic punch to the story?

Either way, Nintendo is still making money...E is still for "everyone."

Needs a different story line - I'm not going to bother buying any more pokemon games if they involve some boy or girl from a small town on a quest to defeat gym members, defeat a cult or crime squad on the way and become the best trainer. Come on, mix it up a little bit. Pokemon games are more formulaic as hell, I know what's going to happen before it happends. You'll find the same HM moves, battle with a rival, get the Flying move about halfway through, there'll be a cave puzzle somewhere along the line and they'll be a few legendary pokemons about, you'll get one masterball...... yawn. After two games that were pretty much the exact same thing I lost interest.
You forgot about the "meet up with a professor named after a tree" step. But otherwise, yes, I agree. And get rid of the silent protagonist. There's nothing I hate more than a silent protagonist in a video game.

I agree with character customization, but it needs LESS pokemon. I cant catch them all anymore, especialy because some are not even avalible in the newer ones

i agree that it does need a better storyline, a darker one, like the comic books, with pokemon actually dying rather than just fainting.

also an mmo would be awesome.

Already said but, Realtime combat, this would mean there would be some skill to it, the oppertunities are limitless, even with the wii controls, for example...

Mewtwo uses psycic - it grabs the enemy pokemon and you get to fling it about for a few seconds with the wii remote and the more violently it's moved the mored damage it does.

When you level up you maybe unlock new things in the "training areas" so your pokemon can learn a new move by maybe doing a certain mini game, eg, learning strength, has to lift a rock and moves up to something like snorlax (after other things of course) for the final stage of learning the move or something like that anyway.

And for walking around, you are allowed to keep 1 pokemon out all the time for show or whatever.

but yes, all good ideas guys :)

If I had to do a minigame every time I wanted to teach my pokemon a move, the disc would be used as a frisbee as soon as I could get it out of the machine.

And about this recurring theme of having pokemon fight to the death and then loose them. Say you've beaten the game and you're doing multiplayer in an open area, you fight someone and your pokemon dies. Congratulations, the "work" you put into the game to get decent pokemon is now null since they're dead. How well do you think that would be received?

Guys, again, this is simple stuff. Nintendo hasn't changed the formula for a very simple reason: It makes more money than you and your kids will make in your lifetime. In the ten years it's been running, it's been able to sell 186 million copies of the games in it's franchise, which is second only to the Mario Bros. series. If you're looking for something drenched in your precious dark, gritty realism, then go play Final Fantasy where all the characters are required to meet a minimum of emo. As Notashrimp said, this game is for children. Nintendo isn't going to change something that's obviously getting them loads of money just to make a VERY small minority happy.

Get rid of all pokemon from 151+ apart from all the evee evolutions because they are cute and look cool compared to the others that look like a bloody 6 year old did them

New PKMN idea:

3D
The ability to go to any region
Pokemon mounts like in WoW (think riding on Suicune, Rapidash, Arcanine like a horse and flying on Charizard and Lugia)
Like someone mentioned above; customizable characters, and clothes shops.
A day-night cycle
Good remastered versions of the original songs
No goddamn Pokemon natures. I spent forever breeding the right Pokemon with the perfect bloody nature.

I could say more but it's late.

Y'know, I had an inkling today. The legendaries have gone into elements (Moltres/Entei, Suicune/Articuno, Zapdos/Raikou) and time and space (Dialga/Palkia), where else is there to go but Jesus and Satan?

Also:
No pokemon natures. This is annoying.
Use the bike music from the first game. It was, by far, the best of them all.
How about using the entire pokemon universe instead of just one region?
Too many held items that do the same thing.
Stop making a third game that's closer-related to the anime.

I havn't played anything since the early games. But I was always dismayed that i had to choose from three pokemon. Three I really didn't give a toss about. I'd rather have looked through some of the other ones and made my own decision from the hundreds availiable, bar the legendaries and all that jazz, and formed a better connection with my stupid little animal, because I would have found it cool from the outset.

I'll be damned before I let you or Nintendo touch my Luxray.
I challenge you, to a game of Pokemon. I'll use my Alakazam, Charizard, Golem, Hitmonchan, Pikachu, and Polywhirl, and you use your new-gen Pokemon.

I will fucking awesomely destroy you.
Okay! Tyranitar, Infernape, Lucario, Floatzel, Garchomp, Luxray.

You lead with Ala who is psychic, Psychic does nothing to dark and because the elemental punches use physical instead of special Alakazam can't do any real damage. Only thing you can switch to is Hitmonchan who will more than likely fall to Tyranitar.

Charizard loses to Tyranitar, Floatzel, Garchomp and Luxray.

Golem loses to Infernape, Lucatio, Floatzel and Garchomp.

Hitmonchan loes to Garchomp at LEAST. the fact my entire party over powers it is another story.

Pikach- AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Ooohh sorry I thought that was a joke.

Poliwhirl? considering it's a second stage not even a Poliwrath or Politoed any of my party could beat it.

Of all the pokemon to pick from he first gen you chose 5 pathetic excuses to exist and alakazam.

No Gyarados? No Snorlax? dude... sucks.

Heehee. You take things a little too seriously, my friend. Can't I fight with a few of my favorite Pokemon in place of those that are "ubar"? You also seem to forget a key thing about Pokemon;

You can switch Pokemon as much as you like while incurring no penalties whatsoever.

And I didn't even build a move list. If you'll notice, most of my chosen Pokemon are fast. as. fuck. Build that into the fact that most of them can learn different elemental attacks and your ass is toasted.

Hitmonchan? Taken out by whom, exactly? He's fighting type; weak against only psychic and (if I'm not mistaken) earth attacks. He can learn Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch, and good ol' Mega Punch. If I'm not mistaken, one of those four attacks is more than likely going to seriously damage you.

Polywhirl, Polywrath, I haven't played the game in six years, and you assault me for that? I meant Polywrath. Hypnosis, Screech a few times, switch to another Pokemon and throw you into the floor.

Tech choice is far more important in the land of t3h Pokeman's, my friend.
Fighting types are weak to flying types, half my pokemon can learn Aerial Ace and NOTHING in your party can outspeed my Infernape. Not to mention Mega Punch? IS A NORMAL ATTACK! Thus, you hvae rendered Hitmonchan from a threat to a whimpering coward who is taken down by a simple aerial ace.

And Hypnosis? a 60% Chance to hit! not to mention Poliwrath is NOT THAT FAST!

I STILL have the fastest on the field, a Pokemon who's strength is killing everything and anything that stands in his way.

But let's say I drop the Garchomp for Staraptor, just so i'm not using anything TO over powered. A bird type who also out speeds your team who learns Brave Bird, U-Turn and CLOSE COMBAT.

A Bug type attack that switches itself with another pokemon, aFying attack that is like Double Edge, a fighting attack that does 120 base damage.

Oh my I believe I just took out 4 of your party.

And you may be able to switch but my attack still goes through. Who says I'll use crunch with Tyranitar, maybe I'll use Stone Edge, and Luxray? Learns Fire Fang, Ice Fang and Thunder Fang. Infact a lot of Mon's learn the elemental fangs now.

Did I mention you CAN'T use the new attacks since you are arguing "Old School is the best"
Personally, I prefer the originals to the newer games. That doesn't mean I haven't played the new ones. But I like the old ones. And while I like Gen-1 the most, my two favorite pokemon are from later generations (Blaziken and Raikou).

You are getting a little overboard about this whole pokemon arguement. And you can know stats, but in a battle things can be different. You never can predict the order someone uses. And you can't predict what moves they know or use regularly. So stop having a fake battle on a thread that has nothing to do with this argument, unless you'd like to get reported.

Get rid of the spin offs. Make no more new monsters.

And sure, character customization would be interesting but making your Pokemon wear silly hats and shirts is a waste of programming. And I already hate with a passion those who already do it to their pets.

1. have ur first pokemon in ur party walk wit u like in yellow but not just bloody pikachu it would be stupidly funny to walk around wit the biggest fuckin pokemon u could find

2. using every reigon not jus the bloody 1 u get randomly tossed into at the start i mean come on wat could be more fun than walkin in circles wait everything after u've completed it theres nothin to do so u either give em all to people who want the pokemon u hav or u torment them wit the pokemon u hav and they dont i go with torment.
