oh come on Pokemon is rediculous, its for little children. that is why you get made fun of. Its childish nonsense, with a bad story to boot. you lose braincells when you watch the show... its a scientific fact!

ugh, there are so many better shows and games out there to play, why anyone (above the age of 12) wastes their time with pokemon is absurd.
But it's so fun and addictive. Have you played the games?

Anyway, although my school is less cliquish than most, you can still talk about two things with anyone: Halo and Pokemon.

Because your still playing the same game you'd played 10 years ago.

And because the graphics are extremely childish compared to most other games.

And because its rated E.

Well... i love pokemon, but it seemed unfair that you have to buy "both" versions of the game just to catch all 150 pokemon (or how many are there now??)

i knew every secret, every turn, every hidden item in pokemon red, and being the hermit that i am i hated it that i couldnt get all pokemon, well, this haves more to do with the fact that i was always the rich kid with all the toys and my friends never owned a game boy, also, i bought the pokemon game for the "GB advanced" and i hated what they did with the series... "NOTHING"

ok ok, they added features but in the end, it was the same game all over, the graphics were cooler, but you still heard "8 bit" roars and grunts whenever you were fighting, i am not saying this is wrong, i am saying that it felt like the same game, and the new features didn´t appeal to me at all... still i caught as many pokemon as i could, but, i felt empty inside again because the game felt incomplete, there was a lot of potential in the game, but i felt they didn´t pulled it off

i dont know how are the new Pokemon games, but unless they have changed drastically the "base" of the story, i would not play them (oh and mistery dungeon was awfull in my opinion).

Because you're catching cutesy little animals in a game clearly built for 8 year olds. Personally, I don't think that's an issue. In fact, it's built LESS for kids. Yeah, you heard me. You can now use Individual Values and Experience Values to raise your Pokemon to be much stronger than any 8 year old that just raises it like he would. The stories of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Diamond/Pearl/Platinum are suprisingly dark, moreso for the latter three. And here's the kicker: They have made a Pokemon to represent Anti-Matter, something only adults or really in-tune kids would know.

OT: It's not, those who don't like it constantly rag on it and claim people who play it are childish.

Haha. Many of the people at my school play it during lunch and free time. Many also have female companions.

There is nothing wrong with Pokemon!

I have loved Pokemon since I was about 11 or 12 (I'm 21 now) and I still love it so much. I can name all of the first 150 Pokemon and know a lot of the second generation. If that makes me gay then call me Ms. Gay!

Pokemon is awesome and only the true fans are around when the fad is over with. I wish I could play my pokemon games but sadly, my GB Advance was stolen so my Pokemon Yellow and Crystal are collecting dust. ;-; Makes me so sad...

That is true. When I was with my ex about a year ago, him and I both got GB Advances as well as Pokemon Emerald. We were playing those games every chance we got. We even talked to eachother about it. Video games were always something him and I could talk about so if playing certain video games causes to to never get a girl... I must be an odd girl cause he was into all that stuff that everyone seems to think is a girl repellent... including D&D.

Because people are idiots, they think that because something bright and colorful is popular with little kids, that it's only for kids and that they're now too "mature" for it. It's part of why some people still think video games are only for kids as well.

I liked pokemon. For me, the game just got a little repetitive and gimicky as the generations kept coming. For everyone else, it's always fun to bash the popular stuff (halo, pokemon, video games in general).

It makes sense, though. There is more intellegence or dexterity in the AVERAGE gamer's thumb than there is in the AVERAGE sportsman's whole body. Intellegent things are never popular (unless your name is Albert Einstein and you helped create the world's coolest explosion machine). If you are a gamer and a sports player, well then you just get the best of both worlds, don'tcha?
I like it the most because no matter how much you study it, there are still ways to improve any team, and there is a massive amount of tactic and intelligence required to be truely good at it, and I'm glad that they keep coming out with more, since that allows for more strategic combinations, though I don't watch the NEW cartoons. (I still like some of the old ones)
Very true. Another reason I was turned off by the game: once I discovered EV's and IV's and the various effects of the multitude of items available and how they affected this at that time and blah blah blah, I realized that to be truly good at this game it would consume my life to create a halfway decent team. It got too complicated, so I only play from time to time.

And the new episodes are crap.
Lol! That's actually the massive reason I LOVE it!

I never 'liked' Pokemon, being a good deal older than the target audience when it first became popular (in places that weren't Japan anyways), but I still played a few of the early titles. The original games were entertaining and whimsical, with a surprising amount of depth. But then they kept on releasing the same game, over and over and over again, and then came the ridiculous spin-off games (it's Pokemon!... but without any of the things you enjoyed doing!).

The show of course was always terrible.

probably because it is considered to be connected to childhood, i mean pokemon and zelda were the first videogames i played, so i see pokemon as childish, yet i still love it. LoZ is not childish b/c of it's awesomeness.

the goddamn TV show. The only reason pokemon caught on in the US and UK is because of the TV show. But the TV show is so childish, that even at it's best only 10 year old boys can enjoy pokemon without becoming a pariah. Happens to a lot of fun things (see Yu-Gi-Oh! for further reference.)

Probably gonna get flamed for this....

In all truth, I actually play the first two generations far more than the last two.
After Ruby and Sapphire, the games started to feel kind of generic... sterile. It's sad.
On top of that, the head count is just ridiculous now. What is it,now, 493?
For me, the magic number is, and always shall be, 251. RBYGSCFTW!

Because of alot of the higher level battling requires thinking.

And you know how FPS junkies feel about thinking, at all, in any circumstance.

Honestly, the Pokemon games are perfect for just about any age. They're great RPG's which are tailor made for portable consoles and suits them perfectly. Nothing wrong with liking the Pokemon games!

But the TV show is another story...

I wish there was a new show that had all the life-threatening situations and property damage of the original (remember when they burned down the Grass-type gym?). The anime has declined since they stopped trying to kill Ash every other episode. I guess they decided they just couldn't beat Killed by Mewtwo.

On an interesting note, in the latest movie a main character dies. But god brings them back to life at the end of the movie. Of course, the reason the character died was because someone almost killed said god, as a result of the main characters going back in time to stop a different bad guy, as a result of god trying to destroy the world in the present. And it destroys the other three gods in its rampage.

The Pokemon Special manga also has a somewhat darker plot than the anime, in which people and pokemon are regularly assumed to die. Like that time early in the series when Red froze a Magmar, spared its life, and Giovanni cut it into little tiny icecubes. Also when Ruby's dad was killed by Maxie and Archie.

Also of note is the book in the library about a guy who got a sword and went around killing pokemon. They keep trying to insist that people and pokemon are all part of a world with death and assorted creatures.

One last point: Gyarados.
