So I finally broke down and got another 3DS and Pokemon Y. Immediate impressions are pretty good; its still Pokemon, its still great and holy crap, Kalos is apparently Pokeworld's France.

But I do have a couple of lingering questions; can Cyndaquil + Ralts be obtained in game normally, or are they trade/special event only?

Since the game doesn't come with an actual manual (seriously WTF mate?), are there any major changes to the gameplay since I last played in SoulSilver?

Is the Pokemon Frontier/Online nearly as filled with hacks/cheat Pokemon as the old online Pokemon games, or does the new update system seem to keep that at bay?

Ralts is catchable on Route 4, and you can get it as a trade for any Pokemon after you beat the game. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Ralts#Game_locations

Cyndaquil is only available through transporting from an earlier game, or if someone has it in their Friend Safari.

That's to reduce waste paper.

Open your box for the game. See those square holes? That reduces plastic usage on packaging.

Reduce, reuse, recycle, dawg. Fo' realz.

The breeding system is so much better designed it's not really a problem. I have yet to have trouble with it at least.

Aw. Cyndaquil isn't available in the game?

There goes my favorite Starter. I was also sad that the Fennekin I got wasn't a girl so I could rename it Ahri.

You sure you didn't get a manual? It was just a piece of square card/ paper and you may need to flip over to see it.

As for anything new to the gameplay, well for one thing there is a new ariel battle which is pretty much a battle exclusive to flying type only. Also don't worry if you enter into a ariel battle with no flying Pokemon, it will prompt you if you want to enter and it will know if you got no flying type.

Also there is a new type, Fairy which is super effective against Dragon type (don't asked how or why, just go with it) and because of this, some of the old Pokemon got relabel Fairy like Celfairy or got it as secordary type like Ralts.

just use wonder trade for a bit, you'll get more Ralts that you'll know what to do with
you can also get Cyndaquill this way. You can pretty much get any pokemon if you're persistent enough, I've gotten Mewtwo, Xerneas, Groudon, Moltres, Articuno, Zapdos, and a bunch more legendaries all from the Wonder Trade, there should be more of these floating around now that the cloning hack is out

You can just try to trade a Cyndaquil throught GTS, if I may make a suggestion, try Vivillon for the trade, there's still some lookout for the rarer type of Vivillon.

You can probably come across a Cyndaquil pretty quickly via Wonder Trade. Seriously, wonder trade is amazing. I've gotten so many Pokemon (admittedly you'll usually have to breed it a few times if you want one worth owning) through it- People tend to WT off their spare Pokemon when they're breeding so you get a lot of popular Pokemon, like starters.

If you need a Cyndaquil I can provide it. I replayed Soulsilver several times and transferred all the Gen 2, 3 and 4 starters to my X game.

Edit - Just don't expect perfect IVs or whatever. That is what my friend does. I just get them for em. You can breed it to perfection if you want.

Edit 2 - Actually for anyone, if you want one of the starters, the code is 3926-6009-0366. Just PM me or something so I know what I need to breed in advance. T-Storm here atm, so any requests I'll deal with when it passes.

You know what? For my favorite starter, I'll take you up on that.

I'd like a Cyndaquil please. I don't have much to trade - I just beat the first Gym recently, and since I had to get a new DS and such, I don't have my old games and thus none of my older Pokemon.

Wonder Trade is one of the best additions to this generation. You don't know what you're going to get and is really useful in early-game. Sure you'll have to shift through some crap (them pesky Japanese kids sending me Fletchlings and Weedles), but you can grab some late-game Pokemon (including Ditto), transfer exclusive (requires a $5 yearly subscription if you want to do it yourself), and Friend Safari Pokemon too. Friend Safari can be especially annoying because only certain people can give you certain Pokemon, so it's easier to go to Wonder Trade first instead. Not only that, but sometimes people give away Pokemon with interesting natures, egg moves, decent IVs, hidden abilities, and even the rare account of shinies.

But aye, Ralts is rare but catchable, though you get one later for peanuts. Cyndaquil is transfer exclusive, so you'll need Wonder Trade or the GTS in order to get it without paying the fee. Starters are pretty common in Wonder Trade and the GTS. Hell, I can breed you one if you want. Won't have fancy IVs or moves, but if you just want one then I can hook you up.

EDIT: Ah, missed the other post. Seems like you got your Cyndaquil.

Ha! I've interrupted your plans! The victory is mine!

Attempt at being on topic, I second all love of wonder trade.

You villain. I just wanted to help people.

And yea the wonder trade is a great new system. Got me my Abra. and I have tossed a few duplicate legendary Pokemon into it (From Soulsilver and Black) Hopefully that cheered someone's day up.

Edit - If anyone feels like taking my offer up on the other starters, feel free to ask.

You can wonder trade a ton of times and I guarantee you will find a Cyndaquil. Starter Pokémon are transferred on there constantly.

Yeah, I actually got a Snivy from my first Wonder Trade. I was just trying to see what it was all about, and BAM! Snivy.

Snivy is the B/W Grass starter, right? Or he is just a normal Pokemon from B/W?

Snivy is, indeed the B/W grass starter. Wonder Trade's pretty sweet; I once got a Garchomp with PKRS from it.

Just so you know, when you wonder trade, use the GTS or battle you get pokemiles- a secondary currency that you can exchange for certain items in-game. Outside of the lottery prizes this is the only way (that I know of) to get PP ups. Alternatively you can use the Global Link website to exchange your pokemiles instead (I think the Global Link has better exchange rates than the in-game merchant)

XY's online stuff is a lot better than any of the previous games. Sadly, the entire post game story takes place in one city. And not even a new one either. Though IMO it's the funnest post game story so far (I dont count Kanto from HG/SS as post game).
